If you just bolt on that gasket without cutting them to match the tall ports then you just created a huge restriction and loss of power. So that is why I and Racing Beat could only think that they may be a Japanese or Euro spec engine? I don't know but it makes no sense to me. When they built these 12a's with the tall ports what gaskets did they come with?
As Jeff said, they came with short-runner gaskets, because the stock intake manifolds were short-runner. It's only necessary to trim if you're using a manifold with tall runners, such as some Weber manifolds.

Update, test fit #1

This was the first test fit using McKenzie's 10-degree mount. Set it in place, clearanced the frame horns and called it a night. I've been working on this all week, and it's cold.

Thanks for the help, Steve.

I ended up grinding about 1/4" off the end of the input shaft and beveling it. Checked fitment by putting paint on the nose of the input, reassembling and disassembling, and checking to see if the paint rubbed off. It took forever, but it works.

One question: Did you use any kind of mount on your motor aside from the KEP adapter? Cause I'm not planning on using anything else.

How's he like it? Any problems with the carb?

/I needed a little more ground clearance

He ended up shifting two of the holes to lower the engine tilt slightly. This brought it to less than 10° but I'm not sure by how much. Basically it resembles stock tilt and the carb sits level. I guess he likes it fine.

Here it is, the oft used Kennedy Adapter (minus flywheel).

I've decided I didn't like the hardware that was sent with the kit. First, all of it appears to be Metric ISO 8.8. This is roughly equivalent to SAE "Grade 5". Since I'm not using any mount aside from the adapter I figured I would invest the time and money to get the best hardware available. This means using Metric ISO 10.9 hardware, replacing the transmission-side studs with bolts, and buying engine-side bolts that are longer to accommodate a hex nut.

Code:
Kennedy hardware

4x (10 x 1.25 x 30mm) HEX HEAD ISO 8.8
1x (10 x 1.25 x 35mm) HEX HEAD ISO 8.8
1x (10 x 1.25 x 40mm) HEX HEAD ISO 8.8

1x (10 x 1.5 X 100mm) STUD
3x (10 x 1.5 x 60mm) STUD
4x (10 x 1.5mm) HEX NUTS

My hardware

3x (10 x 1.25 x 50mm) HEX HEAD ISO 10.9
1x (10 x 1.25 x 40mm) HEX HEAD ISO 10.9
2x (10 x 1.25 x 30mm) HEX HEAD ISO 10.9
3x (10 X 1.25mm) HEX NUTS

3x (10 x 1.5 x 100mm) HEX HEAD ISO 10.9
1x (10 x 1.5 x 125mm) HEX HEAD ISO 10.9
4x (10 x 1.5mm) HEX NUTS
The studs which hold the transmission to the adapter thread 3/4" in and stop. In my application, I replaced them with longer bolts that thread-in from the engine side. There is more than enough clearance on the engine side for the head of the bolts and even washers if need be. While 100mm and 125mm length bolts may seem much longer than the studs they're replacing, they are actually a near perfect fit.

You can only reasonably add hex nuts to 3 of the 6 engine-side bolts. The two bottom-most bolts thread directly into the block with the longest (40mm) bolt threading into the bottom right. The top left bolt threads into an area that is obstructed by the oil pressure sensor (12a/13b). This leaves only the two top-right bolts near the KEP engraving, and the middle-left bolt. Use the 50mm bolts with nuts in these locations.

This should be fairly bullet-proof as long as the adapter plate doesn't fail. I'll take some more pictures next time I'm working on it to demonstrate this write up.

Here's the cardboard template I made for the upper mount, with the gussets taped into place. Have started cutting some 3/16" steel to make the plate. I'll post pics when I make a little more progress.

I like it, thats gona be a fun toy, I didnt read into the details but do you plan on putting a skid plate covering the oil pan. You should take it to Glamis for testing. Also whats the plan for the air filter?

Built this upper mount tonight. I cut, coped, and matched the gussets and ran the drill press. The jig was a small wooden block and a couple of clamps. My buddy Steve tacked everything together. We took out the obnoxious flux core wire we've been using, and got the welder running on .35. I finally got some Argon gas for the welder which helped a lot, but we had to turn the heat all the way up to make any kind of solid weld (110 MIG). We got lots of practice with some scrap metal.

Made this template today to test. It fits, but I'm concerned it may be too small. It would have a 17" x 16" core, which would give me 272 square inches of surface area. The stock radiator for this motor had 252 square inches... It will be bigger, but not by much. I'm leaning towards a dual-pass Howe core, in fact I've already identified the specific core I would use. It's money down the drain if it won't keep the motor cool, but I have limited space available. The fan is 3000cfm, and I'll probably have to set it up as a pusher

I like how the upper bellhousing mount turned out. Don't bother with 2x3 arms until you actually need them.

It's been a while since I updated, progress has been slow. All the pedals and controls are hooked up. I'm ***** deep in the wiring at the moment, so the harness is all over the place. Radiator had a defect, so I had to send it back. Waiting on the header to arrive as well. Only a few more loose ends to tie up. Another couple weeks and I'll be ready to go for a drive. Here's a few pics.
