WTF, why did ABF suk this year?

I'm was there 2yrs in a row supporting the rotaries, I couldn't make it this year. A friend of mine went based on my recomendation. Sounds like it really sucked... what happened ya'll? He said there were only 10 cars, the manager of the Red Lion screwed him over and was a total bitch... And to make it worse ya'll didn't rightly welcome him in the fashion I'd expect. Well if this is how your gonna treat my friends, don't expect me to suppor this BS... somebody better answer for this... I'm furious if ya didn't figure out yet? At least explain the other side of the story.

You dog one www.idahorotary.com guy you dog em all... wsup!!

Have no idea what you are talking about. I talked to quite a few people and met quite a few new people and talked to them a bit about their cars. There was like over 20 RX-7s at least wasn't there? I thought it was a great event. I dont know what fashion you mean to welcome people but I tried to meet as many people as I could and learn about their cars a bit and share some of my knowledge.

Well, WHAT WAS HE SMOKING?!!!!!!

cause a hell of alot of us had a great time. haven't you looked at the ABF threads? if he only seen 10 cars and didn't feel welcomed............ maybe he went somewhere else? cause we had 8 cars on the dyno both nights. had to have over 25 cars there. had some memorable drinking nights. lots of laughs. and met a bunch of new people face to face. i was woundering where you idaho guys were this year. would have liked to say hi. but if he only saw 10 cars and didn't feel welcomed i'd have to say to stop smoking that leafy idaho sage brush!

He was in the wrong city......that is weird. There were at least 10 1st Gens, 5-6 2nd Gens 4 3rd Gens and a Repu and a ugly wish had one Cosmo 3 rotor. This guy must not have been talking up cars or people, I had plenty of people coming up and asking what the cup holder was for on my front bumper...LOL! It was fun and it seemed like everyone was talking to everybody. One thing we do need at ABF is more club activities for everyone to mix and have fun.....gotta think of something for next year.....keep it family friendly for the kids.

well I'll see if I can get him to post too, cause ya'll are mentioning experiences I've had and would expect... not sure what happened... I just feel bad cause I referred him n all... he wasted $200 cause Red Lion wouldn't treat him right and he felt like nobody wanted to hang out with him... maybe he needs to come with me...hehe.

I'm a bit baffled by your friends oppinion of the event. I had a GREAT time. It was also my first year, and it was great to put a face to a lot of the names. I will admit, as far as getting to know anyone, it was a very busy weekend, with lots of people, and lots of running. I would like to have had time to get aquainted to a few more people, namely kettleman, whom I've heard nothing but good about. So kettleman, if you read this, sorry I didn't get a little time to just chat. Anyway, seemed like a thousand friendly faces, and a million nice 7's, and a great time for everyone there. Sorry your friend didn't see it the same way, all I can say is, try again next year, and we'll try to do better.

There were plenty of people there. I had a good time, but the important part is why did your friend feel alienated? It is very difficult to keep track of people, and most people stayed in their own cliques. But we all mingled. we all had a good time. Sure it was not the debauchery of years past, but I came for the RotorRally. If your friend did not take the steps to introduce himself we cannot be held responsible for his good time. Remember when you were stairing outside, watching the rain as a kid and you proclaimed "I'm bored" You were only bored because you failed to entertain yourself. The same applies here. See, your Mom was right!

I wouldn't call it clique-ish. A lot of us already have known each other for quite awhile and a few us haven't seen each other for quite sometime so we tend to spend time talking to people we know and catching up. If you want to get in talking to people you need to be an outgoing person and get out there and meet people not wait for people to come talk to you otherwise if you go by yourself, don't know anybody, and aren't outgoing enough to go start talking to people its not going to be a fun time at all.

Scott, why did your friend feel unwelcome?
I did not enter my car in the show because I was only there for a few hours on Saturday.

Well, being from Wenatchee and all, I definitely noticed that the regional people were really sticking together. Everyone that I saw was really keeping to their groups and not going out of their way to talk to me. Maybe it was because of my age, but nobody really seemed to go out of their way to talk to me. It was kind of like trying to hang out with the cool kids at high school and being totally ignored. Maybe some of you will disagree, but that's just how it seemed to me. I can definitely say, that if I wasn't from here and had traveled and paid out the *** to be at abf, I would have been royally disappointed and pissed about things. That being said, I did meet a couple cool people who were glad to do some tech talk.

I was happy to talk tech to people and I tried hard to meet new people, I met at least 15 new people I have never met before and I remember the names of at least 5 or 6 of them. Every one of those new people I met probably only one came up and started talking to me first. I am young too and I didn't even take an RX-7 to the event which makes it even harder because I had no car for people to start asking me questions about. Was it you I talked to about the carbed turbo setup Busted-7? I know it was someone from Wenatchee. Anyways sometime's I come off kind of know it all when I try and share information with others because I have been there done that with about 80% of rotary setups, about the only thing I haven't done or modified is a supercharged rotary and people believe a lot of myths to be fact. Anyways I can understand where any of you guys are coming from that didn't feel welcome, but thats the way it is when your meeting new people especially when your trying to meet new people that a lot of them have known each other for awhile and your the outsider.

Theres another guy from wenatchee I think he has a first gen with a 12A, he wanted to know about building a manifold and doing a carbed turbo setup on it and I gave him some information since I have done a carbed Turbo 12A before with a friend, my advice was that he buy a turbo 12A motor from Japan since it will be cheaper, stronger, and handle the boost better.

I'm sorry if I did not make you feel welcomed at ABF. I was a bit stressed cause of my car breaking down 2 blocks from the hotel as we arrived into town. If you were new then it would have been nice for rotarysc to let one of us know you were coming, so we could have met you somewhere and had you hang out with some of us.

I agree though with Icemstr "Anyways I can understand where any of you guys are coming from that didn't feel welcome, but thats the way it is when your meeting new people especially when your trying to meet new people that a lot of them have known each other for awhile and your the outsider".

We were once new people and have gone through the "outsider" feeling.

Next year if you give us a chance. Lets meet up somewhere so us old people can intruduce you and make you feel more welcomed. Sorry again

Ya I noticed that it was really only the groups that looked like they had fun. I kinda jumped in and started talking with Clardon and Chris to get some tech for my Piston car but besides that no one really talked to anyone. I met a couple guys last year from Oregon that I didn't see again but besides that it seemed unless you knew the people no one said hi or anything.

I had a great time. Would have been better had my -7 been running, but I would have to second the hash smoking thing... don't know what he was doing.

The last couple of years, there was a page on 3Rotor's (Brad's) website that listed all the rotary people who attended Apple Blossom, and their forum names. Is there a similar page this year? Who all attended?

How many people from the RPNW and RROW clubs? Are the Oregon members still a major presence at Apple Blossom, like they were at the first one?

Hey just thought that I would chime in...I had a great time met quite a few new people from east of the mountains. Sorry I can't remember your names but I am sure that I will recognize your faces next time I see you. Personally I apologize if your friend did not have a good time. This year was also my first year and to tell you the truth I had a blast.
As far as the mingling goes, I think that there was quite a bit of that as well. I tried to talk to everyone that was in the car show and really try and get the skinny's on their cars so I knew what I was up against. Also on Saturday night I heard there was a pretty cool party and even though I do not remeber all the people that stopped by I heard it was pretty crackin'.
Well I guess that we always have next year. Maybe next time we should decide before the event which room the party is going to be in that way everyone will be able to come. And of course we will be drinking liquid truth so that akward unwelcomed feeling will go right away...at least for me!

Even though he might have had that outsider feeling i think he should have still been aggressive about meeting new people instead of them to come to him. i know i had that outsider feeling going on but i met alot of new people on the upside. i tried to go down the line up of people and atleast have a word or two with every car owner. and for the most part since i didnt drive i thought it was still a cool event. oh and thanks walter for the ride. if i get one of my 7's running we should hook up at a cruise or something.

Thanks, Chris. To be honest, I didn't forget about the INWR Club.. I kinda took it for granted that you guys would be a major force at the ABF (that says a lot about the level of enthusiasm over there)!

A few members from the RROW, down a bit from years past, but still a good show of hands.. not many people from Idaho.. an awesome representation from the RPNW.. and quite a few people from Oregon. Many new people, many familiar people. Some people have attended every ABF from the beginning, and we know who you are. lol

And once again, Thank You to Flamin' NOS for starting this tradition, and a Big Thank You to 3Rotor for taking the reins and putting in the time and effort to make this what it is today (nobody imagined that it would become so big).

Hey, if you ever have any questions about the bp stuff just let me know. Usually chris is buisy with the busniess and im not the most knowledgable on them, the b6t is more my area. Do you have the turbo on yet? I thought i spun a rod bearing last week, but it turns out i think the ignition messed up somehow with the distributor or something and droped a cyl. or two and immediatly ran so bad that the flapper in the air flow meter started to flap. i was like ****, i thought it spun a bearing and it was the rod slapping around. i pulled the pan and everything looked good, and thats when i realized that it was the afm making the noise, now just have to get it to run on 4 again and ill be good. in the meantime iv bean driving the yellow rx7, ask steve, he knows which one that is. its a real piece of ****, but kinda fun to drive rwd rather than the AWD. Any ways, good luck on your project and i want to check that out once its done.
