So i had my dad look into the spark plug holes to see how many apex seals he could see. On the Rear rotor, he counted all 3. On the front rotor, he found a grand total of zero. hmmmmmm....

yeah... saw that coming. Sorry to hear that bud. Ok, so when did you want to meet up and talk about your options? Now the fun part, figuring out what caused .... all of your seals on 1 rotor to blow? You said you parked it at home one day, than the next day it wouldn't start (because of the blown apexes)? hmmmm I still vote for the sibling took the car out for the day haha. Maybe it was just bad luck, one seal failed, stayed in the engine, blowing the rest.

Actually, I drove my car to dinner, then after dinner, started her up, backfired (i think), and it died, and hasn't started again since

I'm pretty busy this entire week, some sometime next week would be ideal. Tuesdays/Thursdays being the best, but others workable.

If that were the case, I think I wouldn't bother and just get a new engine. But who knows. It'll just have to wait till I'm home again and can take it apart.

I will tell you right now, that housing is done. Unless you seriously prayed to the rotary gods twice a day... haha But in all seriousness 3 broken seals had to go somewhere, and when you tear the engine apart you will see how close the rotors get to the housings. (not at the apex)

I wish you the best of luck, but you definitively will have 1 bad rotor, and one bad housing. It is pretty easy to find replacements for those two though, so don't worry. Again don't just to conclusions about just getting another engine, there are tons more / sometimes better / cheaper solutions.

And this is why we are getting together to discuss such options and whatnot.

My dad also informed me that it looked like part of the front rotor was chipped, so yeah, looks like you're right and the front rotor is dead too.

Tweak, if you're around, Is there any time before you head home for the summer (of course, assuming you are headed home for the summer) that you could get together with me to go over options. I've been incredibly busy with school the past weeks, and will only get crazier until finals are over. Any chance you have a little free time after school is done?

Yeah I will be here till the 4th. But it will only take an hour max to explain everything to you. Some of it could even be done over the internet if you want to.

The first four things that I have to ask is, what is the most you are willing to spend, are you going to be doing the work yourself, how soon do you need it to be done and running, and what are you going to be doing with the car?

From there I can narrow down the options pretty far.

OK, well i'll probably hit you up around the 3rd.

I'm willing to spend around $1,000. After that, my funds dry up until my job kicks in. All work is going to be done by myself, with help from my dad and such. I'd like to get it running in about a month, and all I really want it for is a daily driver.

Doing a turbo swap I realize isn't really practical for me right now, but I'm certainly not closing the door on the idea for sometime in the future.

Ok, so I've got my engine on a stand now (friend had one) and have started taking off all the accessories. I couldn't help but laugh when I took off the exhaust header and several decently sized shards of apex seal fell out.
But with the header off it also let me take a closer look at the remains of the front rotor, and let me tell you, it's chewed to ****, and has one half an apex seal remaining in it.

ewww yeah, saw that coming though. That rotor housing is also going to be pretty eff'ed up also. Have you posted on the forum, WTB s4 NA housing yet? You can start looking for one of those while you wait. Also remember to find the weight of the rotor, next to the ri symbol and start looking for another one of those also.

Have you bought any seals yet? And have you decided to keep it NA or go NA-T?

haven't bought anything yet, I've started on a list of things I'm going to need, but then realized I'm a little confused as to what exactly I'm going to need. So far I have:

Pineapple Racing water seals
Atkins apex seals and springs
FD style corner springs and rubber plugs

Now what I'm a little confused on is what I'm going to need as far as gaskets go. Should i just be getting a kit, like from atkins that has everything in it or what? And in those I know that it comes with all the springs and such.

I don't think I'll be going turbo just yet, but i do want to keep the possibility open for the future. And i'll be posting for a rotor housing now, thanks for the reminder

How much should a decent rotor housing cost me? I really have no idea, lol.
