Knucklehead of the week: speeding teen hits the daily double
A 17-year-old driver hit the daily double on Thursday -- collecting two traffic tickets from two different law enforcement agencies during a single traffic stop.
Say what?
A State Patrol airplane spotted a white 1988 Mazda RX7 traveling at 88 mph in a 60 mph zone on westbound Highway 18 near Auburn at 11:25 a.m. A trooper in a car began pursuing the Mazda, but the driver left the freeway and was stopped by an Auburn Police Department motorcycle officer for speeding in a school zone.
The Auburn officer was unaware the trooper was following the Mazda.
The trooper issued the 17-year-old Auburn resident a ticket for second-degree negligent driving. The Auburn officer cited the driver for speeding in a school zone.
According to the State Patrol, the teen was driving on an intermediate driver's license. Drivers who commit three driving violations while on intermediate license status will have their license suspended until age 18. Based on the driver's previous history of violations, the State Patrol says he will most likely lose his license until he is 18.
