Thinking About Power FC...Your Takes?

My apologies for being away from the scene for so long. Any ways i found out yesterday you can use the PFC on an S4 with the Banzai Racing kit. A few years ago after hearing about the PFC only for the FD i thought about using Haltech. Now I'm thinking about the PFC again. Before i make any decisions i wanted to see other opinions on the PFC. I'd also like to know who tunes with them around the Washington area? Currently i have a 500hp engine with oil mods and a large street port. For now i want to push 400hp till i find a better turbo.

Screw it never mind, i know no one is going to answer. I've decided to go with the PFC.

lol wally so impatient, i know someone at drift office as experience tuning with PowerFC. I have a bit of experience but nothing too extreme I only handled a few fuel corrections, but yeah go for the PFC.

I already cleaned up my harness but could work on it some more. I shall stick with my decision for the PFC and save a little more money over the Haltech. Just a bit overwhelmed with all that needs to be done atm. Thanks for the information though. I shall dig deeper once i have it installed.

I spent a bunch of time working on the powerFC and tuning it on an FC over the last few years. I've also put some time into tuning Nissan powerplants with PowerFC's. To be honest, the main reason there was any difficulty with the rx7 is because the knock sensor display isn't setup to work with the stock wiring by default. So you never get a warning when there's light detonation. I spent some time to figure out how to wire the check engine light to fire when knock was detected so proper tuning could be done... worked like a charm.

Fuel tuning is easy... it's timing that's the bitch. Timing is where power is made... it's also where rotary based ornaments are made. Just make sure you have the right tools.

Excellent information, i would have never known about this issue. I'm assuming Haltech might have the same? No way in hell i'll be tuning this when it's put together. Still a ways away from it though. Thank you so much for this!

We had the PFC on our first gen turbo swap with a Steve Kan tune. It was very good.

Yeah Steve Kan, I've herd about him a few times already. I know one other on this forum, i think his name is David, has a 1st gen with a REW motor tuned by him. I shall check him out for this project then.

Stay away from it. The PFC cant even hold a candle to the new Haltech's, namely the platinum sport series. The PFC is 10 Year old technology.

So, the technology based on the engine is 24 years old.

well i do know if your looking at ppl to do the tuning for you, using the PFC does cost more money just due to the fact that it takes longer to tune then say something that uses a laptop on cus you have to use a small screen and have to tune using the arrows so it just takes longer. i know ppl at the rx7 store use it. go to drift office b4 i left for the army they are who i was going for.

Ralph at Xcessive down in Oregon used to be the place to go for PFC tuning in the Northwest. Tuning RX7s is a tricky thing, make sure you find someone that is experienced with tuning turbo rotaries and the PFC.

I loved the PFC when I had it on my FD, although I can't compare it to any other ECUs. Having the commander is very nice and useful.

Which ECU

the PFC is a great ECU but like some of the others have stated it is older technology. It has little to any safety margin built in to it, other than a knock number which can come and go before you even notice. With a solid tuner you should have little to any problems at all with the PFC but things change and if your engine runs in to a untuned scenario your likely to lose a motor.

For this exact reason Ive been working with the AEM ems for the 7's. Ive had allot of luck with them and will start pushing the AEM as much as i can. The most recent 7 had twin knock sensors, twin EGT's, fuel temperature correction, wideband correction as well all the other obvious sensor.. I was much happier with the final tune then any PFC's prior, i was able to set multiple safety nets to catch the engine from ever hurting itself. Give it a look on there website its pretty impressive for a plug and play/ price.
