Strange electrical issue
Strange electrical issue
ok i have a 91 fc, non turbo.. pretty much bone stock.
I only seem to have this problem when its very wet outside, and/or raining... but even then its a intermitent issue.
with all driving lights off, when the brake pedal is depressed the display on my stereo blinks off.
with just marker lights on, when the brake pedal is depressed, same thing for display of stereo, sometimes power will be interrupted competely and shut off the stereo, the dash lights blink, and then are dimmed until the brake pedal is released.
Raising the lights from the down position with marker lights on causes all lights to blink off, each other component I turn on (rear defrost) dims the lights, holding the brake pedal down dims the lights.
I had this problem a while back, and it went away only a little while after i noticed it.
But this morning it was around all day long, and when i finnally got home, it went away. So what gives?
Am i looking at a bad alternator/alternator belt, battery, bad battery cable connections, bad fuses mabye?
Water getting into wiring somewhere on the car?
your ideas and thoughts would be helpful
Thanks,
Tom

check out your battery terminals. i once had a problem where my clock and radio stations would reset randomly. the never even seemed to turn off, they would just reset while driving. turned out my B+ screw was just loose.
if theres enough load on a weak contact, it will do wierd stuff.

go to a schucks and they will check your battery and alt. on teh free. this has happened to me twice because of my stereo system, the alt will start to go bad, and the battery will still have around 12 volts, but the cold cranking amps will be about half what they are supposed to be. When the brakes or something else that demands a decent ammount of amperage the lights will dim/ stereo will turn off. its a good chunk of change for both but itll fix your problem, I plan on a v8 swap in the near future so i will be going to a larger factory alt and dual batteries mounted in the bins. an fd alt would be a good upgrade for a stock car.
k im done.
