if your removing the front cover and eshaft bolt there are some things you need to be carful about, look up about thrust bearings moving while hte eshaft bolt is out, what can happen is the bearing falls down slightly then when its put backtogether it can damage the bearing

not exactly

I have a S5 on the way already and I only planning on switching only what I have too. Like the fuel injectors / 720 secondaries / low impedance, the TPS & front cover / mechanical omp.

Ok let me see if I have this right... You are going to run a s5 that is 9.0to1 and has a more efficient turbo and a higher flowing intake manifold with a s4 harness and chipped s4 ecu and 720 secondaries... Come on Don, I would hate to see this one chernobyl like the last one. In my opinnion the the tune on that car is going to be pretty far from right, please tell me you are doing something else to tune that thing...

I could premix and keep the front cover.........mabey

I have to change the injector because S4 is low impedance and S5 is high impedance.

The Throttle body on a S4 has a connecting rod that goes to the OMP and the TPS is narrow range only on the S4, the TPS on the S5 is narrow range and full range.

my dad and i just removed the engine and tranny...and i have been flushing out the radiator in my moms new rx7 first gen. several times to clean it out...
it was probably twice as hard since we had the lift on the slant of our driveway and it made it difficult to control, while we were still disconnecting miscelanious parts hooking into the engine...

the relief of seeing it on the ground and out of the car gave me a good feeling...and then my dad says to go flush the radiator in my moms car AGAIN....i had trouble the last time cause i was away from it for so long (15 minutes), and over working on my car, that i forgot what size socket i was using lol ...

Engine stand

Poor mans engine stand. Motor rotates. The guide pins on the flywheel fit inside a 5 gallon bucket perfectly. Going to put the J-Spec on another bucket next to it and swap the parts I need.

I sent a $ order from my Credit Union and I was supposed to send a USPS $ order so now I have to wait till the 28th till it clears before the motor gets shipped. I love to wait.............................................. ...

I need to hammer it harder apparently. The S4 flywheel and presure plate are still smooth as glass and the clutch looks like new.........dirty new. The guy who sold it to us had it changed right before we bought it 1 year ago.

Can I use a S4 clutch on a S5 motor? Different part # http://www.mazdatrix.com/f86-92tb.htm
Anyone have experience with this?

New Motor arives

Turns out is been at Redaway freight since Thursday, good thing I called. Picked it up after work. Mondo grande thanks to Rickrx7 because I got more than 2x as much done as I would have without his help and its always better to have more than one head solving a problem. Looks like the donor was a AT.

S4 throttle body swapped into S5, 720's installed and wired, air pump and ACV removed.

Need to remove rats nest, swap primaries - rewire, swap front cover, swap flywheel & clutch, replace hoses etc, Port WG.

Looking at a S5 motor with S4 wiring harness, throttle body, primaries, 720 secondaries, Rtek 1.7, front cover - water pump, OMP, rats nest removal, AC & PS.

Still need to figure out what to do about boost controll, sugestions?

Update:
Brian (japan2la) is sending me a S5 MT fly wheel because my S4 one wont work for this motor.
Sending 2 injectors that are from the original engine and going on the primary rail to RC.
Soddered injector plugs on harness.
Removed Rat's nest

You guys are having too much fun! (^_^)

What are you referring to when you mean boost control? Are you going full exhaust minus cat?

Get an 89 motor because they came with nice lightweight rotors. Then go on ebay and buy a tuned ECU from RE or somthing.

Awww, nevermind I didnt read the next pages.

Your right, upon further research I dont need it. And speaking of fun Im going to do some painting of parts while I have them out; water pump, UIM, etc..

Well... it depends what s4 you're referring to. For TII (since they were first brought to the US in 87) the 87 to 87.5 ones were low impedance, 87.5 to 88 s4's were high impedance.

Yes I know, but you said s4's are low impedance, I was merely stating that SOME s4's are not.

Paint prep

Got these glass beaded at the local machine shop. The dude who did the work spoke no, none, zipo english and had dirty hands so I had to clean up the hand prints, But the price was very resonable. Everything is getting painted or polished.
