Dude, just get a first gen and stop thinking to hard about it. First Gen = fun cars, nice cars, and you won't be dissapointed in them. Beside we can roll around with our first gen when you are off from work. Remember it dosen't have to be a GSL-SE 85 because I find any car that is a Rx7 First Gen to be good. Is not about the car is about the driver so go for it bro. Good Luck!

I think any 400 dollar car is a disaster waiting to happen.
I have been very happy with the FB I have owned for the last few months. For the effort I have had to put into getting her road worthy she has been a ton of fun on the road.
I don't know about a 400 dollar car but I guess if it explodes in the driveway right after you start it then I guess you aren't out much.

if you remember i stoped that even after it broke for the last time the rotory engine has actually grown on me also i hate honda's lol there more annyong than a busted 7 and anyway if i got a first gen it's all mechanical the last time it was all electrical i can deal with mechanical problems and tun a carb i do it all the time on my camaro my camaro breaks down on almost a weekly bases and it's always somthing new thats why it's going into the shop so i don't have to work on it as much.......also i don't know what i did to get under your skin.....

$400 might be a little bit low to find a good beater.... I'd say try and find a nice little Nissan for that much - I'd bet you it'll run longer than most anything else

I have a suggestion. Start looking now, but don't be in a hurry. it may take a couple months, but there is a good one out there. If you don't have all the first gen knowledge you need to know if it's a good car, find someone to look at them with you. I paid $600 for mine and it runs great, it just needed a little wrench time, not much though. I really haven't put any money into it.
Here's the rundown: $600 for the white one, $100 for the silver one, and $400 for the red one. They all run great. they just needed a tune up.

Nice, mystickat paid 500$ for hers and its just fine. Needs some TLC and replace some hoses... but she uses it as a DD and (knock on wood) been just as reliable as both my FCs (maybe more due to some wierd electrical that pop up every now and again [knock on wood again... i love my cars :p])

OH DAMN. i'm just giving you **** like i used to. you havrn't been around lately so i miss it. you're not under my skin, i was just stating the facts. besides, not many dogs have bit my ***! ha ha ha. i think a 1st gen would be good for you. they are way cheaper and funner to drive. cheaper to fix and not much complications electrical wise. and izzy's have been pretty quiet without you there by the way.

I voted no because a $400 first gen will more than likely (there are exceptions) turn to scrap metal in your driveway before you get it to be a reliable, and I mean RELIABLE, daily driver. Trust me, I've been down that road with a $350 '83 S.

You also have to remember... when you buy it why is it so cheap?
Sometimes you can find a really bad looking car that runs just fine, then ya can spend your time fixing it to look nice (if you care).
It all depends on how much time and money you want to put into it really.
With $400, you are going to end up paying more to get it to the way you want it (or just back to near-stock performance if its been neglected/beat on).
Personally, as much as I love them. If your strapped for cash, pass on it and save your money for your camaro or whatever ya have.

i got lucky on my 300 dollar car... but yes, i did put a lot into it to get it where i want... not as much as buying one that would be where i want it already tho... reason i was lucky was cause i bought it from a friend of mine who had parked it in a garage in 98 with no motor in it... sold it to me and about a year and a half later its finally my daily driver... more time has been put into it than anything

1. I completely agree with the statement above. Every once in a while you get one for dirt cheap just because someone really wanted to get rid of it and its a great deal but more likely is that you get exactly what you pay for.
2. Rx-7s are not that reliable. My FC NA holds up pretty well but it still has crap go wrong on it from time to time. An FB will probably do the same thing only less complex if an engine problem.
I'd just get something like a VW dasher diesel or something for dirt cheap which wont cost you all that much. My friend got one I think for 500 and gets awsome gas milage. I guess the engines are pretty bullet proof too.
Unless you really get some joy out of working on these cars and fixing them (which it looks like you don't) I don't see buying one for fairly cheap as a good idea.
