shift **** weight
Alright so I'm looking on getting a new shift **** for the T2 and was wondering on what type would work best on our trannys, I'd think a heavy weighted would work best but wanted to see whos tried both ultra light, medium and heavy shifters and what felt best. I'm not looking for a quicker shift, just a nice throw,

I got a Miata short throw shifter with a series 5 shift ****. The S5 **** is nicely weighted and the Miata Short throw reduces distance from gear to gear. It a nice little setup for not to much $$.

Me my motor and tranny wont last another 150, car will still be around though. I don't really care about having to swap bushings occationally. and holding your hand on the shifter weres out the whole tranny faster. not just bushings. But a heavy shift **** is hardly the weight of your arm and hand.

I tried the ultra light plastic **** on my TII with a Mazdatrix short throw shifter because the lighter and uncushioned **** will be easier on the transmission shift forks and synchros.
With a lighter more direct **** you can feel more easily when the synchros are matched in speed (the point it will slot right into the next gear with very little resistance).
Problem was the TII trans is a bit of a beast and I decided it was better to be easier on my hand.
Put the heavy stock damped and cushioned **** back on and proceeded to shift with less mechanical empathy.
Had a couple TII trans in the garage at this point influencing my decisions.
Trans died at ~160,000 miles by shredding teeth of 3rd under load (not shifting related) and I put another trans in.
