RPNW.ORG event: Mt. Hood Drive (April 28, 2007)
Rotary Power Northwest (RPNW.ORG) club is having a Mt Hood Drive on Saturday, April 28th. Cost is free, but you will need gas and food money. Matt McKinney is coordinating the event, so he will post details of where and when we meet-up before the drive, the planned route and what sort of adventures to expect along the way.

This is a reminder that this event is this coming Saturday!
Matt: Can you give everyone a better idea of what the event entails? I'm not sure myself. Is this a "road rally" where we should team up with a navigator or is it just a fun drive to certain destinations? What places will be be going to and what will be be doing there, if anything (lunch break, etc.)?

I am going to attend this, if there is anyone that wants to just ride along I am looking for someone that wants to ride with me, maybe pitch in 5 or 10 bux for gas. Got lots of music to choose from and you will also get the opportunity to ride in a fun fc. Alright I have a car worth bragging about, lol. Hit me up if anyone might be interested. Thanks Tony.

Well, that was fun! Our event captain flaked out at the last minute, so we had to wing it, but fortunately we had someone (Jared) from the club who had made that run four times, plus had a navigator and a GPS. We still missed a couple turns but quickly got back on track. The whole 100 miles was back-road driving with hardly a straight section the entire way.
I don't know why it was called the "Mt. Hood Drive" since we didn't go to Mt. Hood at all. The start point was Clacamas Prominade and we ended up at Multnomah Falls, with stops at Fern Park and Crown Point along the way. The back roads were really radical, with lots (hundreds!) of 15mph posted corners that we took at ~45mph or more and elevation changes that make your ears pop. Fun, fun fun. I am glad we only had mature drivers along because we might have had a wreck otherwise, spoiling everyone's day.
I didn't take many pics, because there were never good opportunities along the drive, but I did get a couple at the start and of the view at Crown Point.
Some of the cars:

The view from Crown Point:

The first portion of the drive route:

The second portions of the drive route:

That E Haines Rd portion, on the second route map, near the top, was REALLY fun!

It isn't highlighted on the map, but the loop of Larch Mt Road, Brower Rd and Haines Rd was the best part of the trip from a driving perspective, with Haines Rd providing the most fun.
I don't know how Blake had time to look at the speedometer.
