Rebuilding the Oly Izzys meet, EVERYONE PLEASE READ AND COMMENT!

Ok so I feel like a new thread was needed since the first one to bring this up is drowning in whining and the good posts are lost to sea.

There is a feeling that the Olympia Izzy’s meet is not cutting it anymore and that we should have more events, tech days, drives, etc. to spice things up a bit and gather interest so people will show up again. I think this is a great idea and instead of taking the aggression out on the keyboard we should actually step up and plan some stuff to make improved meets a reality.

First off, EVERYONE needs to participate to make this happen. Don’t whine and sit back and expect other people to improve it for you. It’s more fun the more people that are involved and we will get more of a variety of events to do. Your experience and connections in the auto world are what’s going to make this work.

Second, what’s the ground area that this meet will cover? I was under the impression that it was only the Tacoma/Olympia/Centralia area since Seattle/Federal Way I believe have their own groups. (Not to say we can’t collaborate with them with bigger events though). We need to know our boundary area before we can start planning locations for events.

Third, we need to amp up our communication. Either everyone needs to check the forum more often or perhaps it would be better to add in a facebook page specific for this meet area. That way we can have permanent info (like a yearly calendar for example) available at all times and since most people are on facebook any posts and events would show up right away. Mind you this would be in addition to also posting here, is that valid or would that not work for anyone? I would manage it no problem.

Fourth, EVENTS! These can be anything you can think of. Friends with a garage owner? Perhaps ask him to use the space for us to go up and have a mini lesson on a certain car system taught either by him or by another talented person in our group. Know an awesome driving road and want to share? Schedule a drive and maybe a picnic potluck to go with it. These events should not be “come over and fix my car” as you can do that on your own time. They should be something that everyone can get involved in and enjoy. The sky is the limit, but try to think of both summer and winter activities!

There may be an occasion where an event may require money, I would think that we should get everyone’s approval before putting it on a schedule so no one is left out. If that’s an issue perhaps work swap could happen for those that need it. I don’t think dues are necessary at this point.

Personally, I think we should keep the monthly Izzy’s meet as people DO show up and have a good time and that is a good place to discuss events in person. Then we can add in bigger events and such on the weekends either once a month or every other month whatever you want to do.

So this is a start, let’s hear what you have to say!

Izzys has been going on for 9 years now. it was thought of to get the local olympia area together. the first meet people came from fed way, Everett, even whimbly isl. it has never been just an area meet since the first one. has always been the second monday of the month. we did try to change it once, didn't work too well. we used to do short drives afterwords or even go to the donut shop.it has been the outpost of event organization. from the BIG BBQ in federal way, apple blossom, Mt St Helen runs, and yes..........North West Toy Run!!!!!!!!

through out the years the participation has faded away and the group that liked the drives either broke or got broke. the last few years haven't been to eventful nor seem to be wanting to be eventful in the forum.

the izzy's meet happens to be the place to hang for a bit, talk bs, and kept going on. so if people want to start doing things again, this is the thread to mention it.

Ive been joining Izzy meets for years and seen good vs bad turnouts. I personally wouldnt care if we just had the usual suspects who join every month, good times for catching up with people I have made friendships with. If people want to join your more than welcome.

Seeing this thread I feel the need to contribute. Good start is some autox events. Rotorette along with others race at Bremerton raceway for bscc. There is a handful of events left this season and doesnt require a whole lot of money. The events are listed on their website which we can all vote on a good time for the community's schedule. When a vote is passed for the best date we choose a morning or afternoon run and make it happen. Gets the community together and is lots of fun, low cost, safe performance driving environment. Bremerton raceway is also a great location for people north or south. Central location kinda lol

If this becomes a hit then we plan more events just like it.

event idea #1

yes or no? doesnt matter because this can help get some ideas rolling if people really want to get the community back.

Agreed, it is the outpost lol I also feel like it's a group of friends that meet up and just chill with the occasional engine rebuild I also happen to like this feel too

Perhaps we can incorporate drives up to the autox's as events for "our" meet? It's much more fun to all drive up together. I have been wanting to go but am too chicken to go alone. I also like kettleman's suggestion from last meet about the detailing activity, nice and local. I guess we will just have to see who else posts here

izzys revival

Oh man where to start,
Ok so a few have posted on the fact that we need to do something to draw more interest. I am not a local but do make my trip down to see everyone and enjoy the chat and seeing the cars. So we need EVERYONE to start to post ideas, drives, once a month tech talk or something that will draw interest from members that are from the north or south. The local chat and meet is all great but we as a group need to add some BANG to each meet to draw more interest from the entire nw group to make this work.

This is how I see it, correct me if you think I am out of place. We as a group of rotary heads need to meet next month, plan a drive on a Sunday for all to come, plan a common meeting point and a final destination with a bring some food, a small bbq, and a total car tech session with the gurrues that really know the cars carbs and engines and suspension set ups we are all looking for. The invite should span the entire nw section to include portland and everywhere in between all the way to everett.

This will need to have some lead time for everyone to plan a road trip if needed so they can make it. this should also be posted in the rx8 forum so everycan see what we are trying to do. lust a thought. you were looking for ideas, this the best I have to offer.............thoughts???????????

Just a suggestion but the guys over at the muffer man were really cool and said that the walmart here in Chehalis closes off a section of their parking lot and holds a lil autox setup once or twice during summer. From the sounds of it its cheap day of fun and I think it would be cool to roll a group of sevens in there... if there any interest I can get ahold of those guys and find out more. Or maybe some other members on here might know more about it.

Yes yes yes please call these guys right away to see if we can work something out. This could possibly be something we could do in August or September?

Snivley, we can definitely schedule a more local drive for August & a small picnic but the big Carnation meet/BBQ/swap is going on August 14th and I know that attracts people from a vast area. I doubt everyone will want to make an exodus twice in a month. Plus we would need some more time and notice to do a big event like you said to get the word out. Perhaps we could do some sort of Octoberfest type event to pick things up in the winter? Although we will have the toy run around then too, just some things to throw around in the next meet.

Also, if you can get ahold of these "gurus" you are talking about it would be cool for them, one at a time, to maybe host a tech day and show us how to do some neat thing to our cars

Ill make a thread/announcement on here if I find out more fer sure! I lost the dudes number... the FC ate my phone and I lost a lot of em.

Im a lil new to the autosport scene lol so finding cool **** to do is tuff much less keepin it legal!

Even if this doesnt go thru as planned does anyone else know of someone(your boss, friend, friend of friend) who owns a parking lot or semi large paved area that could be used to set up a small/slightly private autox/gymkhana. I think the majority of meets not coming thru is MONEY, gas prices are up and were not driving hybrids... but something fun, inexpensive, and allows us to enjoy our cars would be great.

Ive been wanting to get ahold of the owner of this little airport in toledo for some time and see if he would donate some time for me and a couple buddys to use his strip and set up something... even if it ment a 30 to 50 dollar gate fee for each driver it could help him out(greatly if people showed up) and we get out fun for the day.

I doubt even if I do find out who owns it that they would go with it but you never know he could be a die hard car guy and let it happen (good turnout... maybe he sets up another one)

So I'm looking into maybe using the space behind Sears/Target/Kohls at south sound center for a small autox. The lady to speak to is on vacation until monday but at least I finally found the number, sheesh they don't make it easy.
