Most likely an ignorant question, have not read on the topic for quite some time... but has engine management shifted substantially over the last few years in how it's fundamentally handled?

Seems like there is a lot of remote tuning? Possibly with AEM? and others?

And the PFC perhaps has been brushed aside a bit as I am sure other similarly popular platforms as it doesn't have a way to connect remotely?

Modern ecu technology provides a lot of added protection that the PFC lacks. Halters, Adaptronic, etc, have features that help protect your engine in the case of your car going lean, overboosting, etc.

His tunes don't make anything for power and drivability on his remote tunes is garbage. You'll have to keep going back for him to fix the tune. Look at the AFR graphs on his tunes and it looks like a heart monitor.
If you want to make 350whp at 20+psi on a single turbo then he's your guy.

Yes remote tuning has taken over vs the old days of fly steve kan out to tune your car.

You can do team viewe(basicly tuner takes over your laptop) r and be on the phone at the same time while driving and the tuner can change things while going down the road, and or on the dyno

Yeah, remote tuning works fine. It's harder to get the drivability perfect because the tuner isn't there to feel the car.

Shawn did my remote tune. I have no drivability issue. Car runs perfect down the road. granted it will take longer to do a remote tune as the tuner is not the one driving the car. So he can't feel what is going on.

My car makes 400/400 on e85 stock port motor on a 7670. AFR are solid on cruise and full throttle. why all the hate for Shawn has he tuned your car? did you have issue with him? if so post up the issue and how Shawn handled them.

That's a lot of money for a tune, especially with what I have already spent on a turbo kit and fuel system....
Shawn did my tune and it has been a great experience. He always answers questions. if a issue comes up he is quick to look at the log and make some changes. Granted doing remote tune is much slower then in person. if in that case you could always set up for him to fly out and do the tune. you can cut the cost by having people cover the cost of his flights. Its a really common thing when there is not a tuner for your platform in the area

Sounds typical for an in-shop tune. I had Drift Office do my BRZ and they start at $500.

^ No, this was done by reflashing the BRZ's stock ECU with an ECUTek dongle. Not apples to apples I guess but I just bring it up as another price point example of how much an in-house tune costs (Drift Office does not work with rotaries although I did dyno mine there, and I don't believe they do PowerFC). Of course there's always other costs, for example I was required to purchase my own ECUTek license so that's extra cost, but I guess that's the same in spirit to needing to buy a PowerFC itself before it can be tuned.

I do love the tune, I used to have a PERRIN tune on it and it was absolute garbage. Night and day between the two. Better response, more power, rock solid reliable. Bob and Bill at D.O. do excellent work with the 86 cars.

For my FD, I'm doing the tuning myself and it's cool to be in control of everything, but having also gone the shop-tune route makes me appreciate just giving a pro the keys and getting a better driving car, and I don't have to fuss over or worry about anything.

Oh sorry! misread haha. Might go the route of tuning myself also with a PowerFC when the time comes.
