Hey guys I'm picking colleges and stuff...and the only college north of where I live that has an ROTC program and offers degrees in engineering is Portland State. How is it around there? Is there a decent rotary scene? Also if anyone goes to Portland State do you think the college is any good? How is the traffic around there by the way? I don't mind a lot like San Francisco, but LA was insane @_@..

Hey, I was attending PSU this time last year and I liked the school. The traffic isn't too bad it all kind of depends on where you are living and what time you are traveling. There isn't a big rotary scene but we are around . . . Ohh, be prepared for the rain if you move up here! The PSU campus is pretty spread out but you can get to most of the main building without going outside. Good luck

I have a couple degrees from PSU, from back in the 90s. PSU has excellent business and engineering programs, though the rest is about middling. The student body is much older than a normal university, since it's so convinient for working adults and returning students who took time off. They have a great Oudoor Program, if you are into white water rafting, mountina climbing and X-country skiing. Lots of night classes, if you plan to work during the day. Not as presigious as Oregon State or University of Oregon, but you will get out of it what you put into it. PSU is litterally in downtown Portland, so parking sucks, but Portland traffic is really not too bad...particulary comparred to anywhere in California. We have free transportation downtown and several light rail systems to get you around in a bit more style and comfort than a city bus. Downtown Portland also has the advantage of being almost completely flat, so walking anywhere is very easy and they town is made for walking, with good sidewalks, lots of parks, plenty of trees, etc. Great for 6-8 months of the year, with mild weather and lots of sun, but the other 4-6 months will make you forget there ever was such a thing as the sun. Roads are a bit rough in places, but nothing so bad as Seattle. Lots of great driving 5 minutes from town, up in the West Hills. Skiing is an hour and a half away, with two nice ski areas on Mt. Hood, including one that operates all 12 months of the year thanks to a glacier. The Oregon Coast is an equal distance on the other side, with nice wide-open sandy beaches with no crowds whatsoever, even in the summer. The Willamette River flows right through downtown and the mighty Columbia river is just to the North, so there's lots of water recreation too.

I graduated from PSU almost 10 years ago and have not been back much since, but just yesterday I signed up for a recreational PE class (Fencing). Strange how little it's changed, except how young everybody looks.

I don't remember much about the ROTC program, except that their headquarters is called "Harder House". I went to school on the GI-bill, after returning from the Army, so ROTC was not my thing.

The local rotary engine club is Rotary Power Northwest RX-7 Club (RPNW.ORG). Lots of rotary engine cars in the area, including a disproportionate number of Rotary Trucks.

Doesn't OSU have an ROTC program? I thought they did.

Ehh I'm not rich. Portland works :P I'm just getting the engineering degree so I can become a pilot..you need a degree to be an officer..you need to be an officer to be a pilot -_-

PLU in tacoma has an ROTC program. Dunno if you were looking out of state though.

Yes, OSU does have a ROTC program.

Well, I've got a '75 REPU that might be for sale. Fresh, ported S4 NA 13B with Motec ECU and IDA-style throttle body. Still a project, but it runs. Needs paint, tires, exhaust. Willing to pull out the engine/ECU setup if you just want the body. I still have the original engine, which is supposed to be good. Aren't you outside the SMOG zone, down there? PM me if you want more info.
