porting template

i was wondering if anyone in the local area had a intake template for a 12a. i know racing beat and mazdatrix sells them. but it would just be so much easier if someone in the local area had one i could just copy. i just need a base to start with for porting my engine. i would have like to gone with a big street port with a half bridge but my TO4 B is too small. so a nice big street port should do just fine for now. any help would be great, since i like to work on my engines myself.

just follow the lines... u can't go wrong... u can see where the rotor travels on ur cast irons, just don't go over that line and ur all good... its not real hard, i did my own, and i know at least it runs lol, haven't been able to drive it yet tho, other issues stopping the car right now(or not stopping it, depending how u look at it lol)

I guess i will have to take a look at the cast irons tonight and get a better idea. I didn't really think it was too hard. Thanks for the input.

Street Porting for a 4 port motor

I can't help if you are going for something radical, but if you are going to drive it on the street, I can help. I made a copy of the Racing Beat street port templates. Since the carbs have small primaries and pretty big secondaries, I just do minor porting in the primaries, and then do the serious porting on the secondaries. That way I don't give up the driveability. I currently have an 84 with a 12a motor I ported as shown here, with a RB exhaust and a custom manifold I adapted for an RX-4 carb. This measured 130HP at the rear wheels, which equates to about 155-160 at the flywheel. This setup would give considerably more power with a bigger carb, but the stock carb runs really well hot or cold and does not have the annoyances of most of the aftermarket setups. I also have an aluminum RB flywheel, but of course that does not affect the horsepower.

If you know what you are doing and have a good eye, you could get pretty close just by looking at my photos. If you want to bring your parts here we can mark them and you can go home and do the porting.

I also have a really nice set of ported cast iron that was running at about 250HP with a Holley, freshly refinished. I would sell those for a reasonable price, and I have any internal parts you may need. Ben (425) 788-5074

Well, I have posted photos here before, but it won't work for me tonight - sorry.
