Pop’s RX-7 needs to be saved. Need shop recommendation.

Hi,

My dad has a 1983 RX7 that has been sitting in his driveway for about 10 years. He wants to get it up and moving. I was thinking since it has been sitting for so long we ought to just have a new motor put in. I’m sure there is a lot of other stuff that needs to be done as well. I think the brakes are all locked up. We couldn’t move it.

I’m new to this site so can someone recommend a shop that do a lot of work? The car is in Renton, WA so something close to that would be best.

Also (and I should probably search for this instead), what options for motors can we have put into the 1983 body? I know some of the later models had turbos. I currently drive a Subaru Impreza WRX (but changing to a Legacy GT Wagon soon) so I like turbos and my dad isn’t against it.

What should I expect to pay? Over $5000? Over$3000?

Our first goal is to get it moving. After that, it’ll be getting it looking nice (my dad wants to retain the Havannah brown. ) and useable. We’ll probably do some suspension and maybe some exhaust and exterior bits.

Thanks in advance for your help.

-joel

I've gotten a few dead 1st gens going again. 1st gen engine rebuilds are what I do. I can also upgrade you to a 13B if you want to buy the parts.

Mazda tech isnt there anymore. I would really recommend Jerry's little car shop. I had an engine from Atkins put in there and he did a great job.
