PNW Mazda Club

A few of us on the Mazda3forums site have begun to put together a PNW Mazda club - right now it's just getting off the ground but I'm working on a website that we can use to centralize communication rather than a dozen different forums for different models. First order of business is to build a roster of interested drivers so I'm working on building a web-form / database for this. Should be up shortly.

Currently the site is just a splash screen but it will be located here:

www.pnwmazda.com

The thread we are using to coordinate it all:
http://www.mazda3forums.com/index.php?topic=56240.0

If anyone has any questions feel free to let me know. I doubt I'll be on this board often but will try to check back.

Done and done. Looking forward to this taking off the ground. BTW, I have some professional photography schooling if you're still looking for one. I don't have a digital SLR yet but should be getting one soon.

This is long over-do! Just don't ever screw it up like NW Nissans did by requiring membership (paying money) to be a member. Boy did that kill a good site fast.

ST3!

The way I see it - (website aside) in order to charge $ something needs to be of value in return. Time at the track, club only tech sessions at local shops, club only banquets at local places, etc. Participating in club functions that wouldn't cost the club much money if any at all, freebie for everyone, the more the better. Until those services and value can be provided, shouldnt cost folks anything. And ultimately that is all up to the club to decide. Charging $ just for the sake of raising funds with no good reason is stupid.

But all of that is way too early to even think of / discuss. Right now lets try and get Mazda drivers together to form something - I'm jealous of all the other clubs out there! Spending time with my girl's dad at the Porsche club events, etc has been awesome, cant wait for us to have something like that for the Mazdas.

What do you do if you have more than one RX7? I know, someone always has to complicate things. I signed up and hope to see this take off.

if you get this going with a large enough group pacific raceways might allow track days for the club. My uncle is on the board there, and said bmw has a club that gets a few track days. Right now BMW is the only club that has track days. Count me in on this though

Not true.

The following all have track days:

Audi
Alfa Romeo
Porsche
Rose City Corvettes
Motocorsa (Ducati Bikes - Some car days (Lotus) as well
Cascade Sports Car Club - instructional
Team Continental - instructional
Shelby Club
Oh, and the BMW club.

Well, my current ride is an '83 RX-7, so I'm golden. But my current project is a '78 GLC, which will become my main car once it's done. And my two cousins own five Mazda vehicles, a Mazda-powered MG, and a soon-to-be Mazda-powered VW between them, none of which are newer than '78.

I'd say it should go back to 1970, since that was the year Mazda officially entered the US market with the RX-2.

Also, if it's feasible, there should be an option to change your car later, or maybe even to add multiple cars. Just my $0.02.

Right now just put one - this is the prelim roster. I'm glad it's getting a great response but it was only put up as a temporary thing to get the club started. I'll build a more robust site as time permits.

I'd like to see a profile section where users can show off their vehicle(s). Login to a members only area, etc.

See my comments above. As for the years - I can go back to 1970 however I'd suggest we keep the focus to Mazda vehicles (not just Mazda powered). VW's and MG's are great and all... but where do you draw the line if you start adding things like that? I've heard of 911 turbo engines being dropped in VW vans, doubt the Porsche Club of America will recognize those (but what do I know!)

He's correct - way more than just one club down there. This was one of the many things driving my interest in starting the club. We could have a lot more coming our way - just have to be an organized group of drivers. We have the #'s just not the organization.

You might want to check out this club website for Rotary Rockets of Washington. They didn't seem to be able to keep it going, and they had a pretty good membership a few years ago. They were having Dyno Days, among other activities.

http://www.clubchaos.com/

You need to establish what is the purpose of the club. Presumably the members would share some common interest. What is that going to be?????

What common interest do you have with a guy driving a Mazda 3 that you do not share with someone who is a rotary enthusiast and has stuffed a rotary into a VW or MG??? What about people who have put a V8 into an RX-7??? If you eliminate people with imagination and creativity, not to mention fabrication skills, you will have little to learn from each other.

These guys have a nice web site:

http://www.rx7.org/

Although I am maybe the sole individual driving this right now. I hope to not be the only. With that said, a lot of these aren't my decisions to be making. I've got a ton of ideas and I see what you are saying in regards to sharing the same interests. As I said though, I'm really only trying to get a ball rolling. This is a hobby and I have limited time to put into it. Hopefully in the coming months we can really get this organized, meet up with some folks for a few beers and start hashing out plans.

Just as a thought, maybe it'd be best to just have people type their vehicle's year and model into a box?
