LS1 Chevy crate motor ? In your Mazda. Now that would be freakin' badass .Or are you thinking of finding a Z06 ?

According to Corvette Magazine, the LS1 makes 407hp with headers/full exhaust and intake....at the crank. It was out of the car hooked up to an engine dyno, so you really cant argue with those numbers. With a street cam/headers/full exhaust/intake it made 447 at the crank, same situation. Either way, you arent even breaking 400 to the wheels with those mods.

Then they added 100hp shot of nitrous. Thats when it got fun

The engines are not unreliable, but the humans who build, tune, maintain and drive them are. Rotary engines are not as idiot-proof as boingers to be sure, but that does not make them "less reliable". Sensitive, yes. Perhaps too sensitive for some. Mazda also could have put a bit more engineering work into the FD, IMHO. Your problems are on human shoulders. There is no good reason to be on your fourth engine.

I really like V8s -- there is something primeval, crude, masculine that seems cool, but perhaps that's just because I was raised around them (my first car was a Plymouth Fury with a 440ci V8, and I currently have a Ford F250 with a big block FE engine) -- but they just don't do it for me when it comes to sportscars. Perhaps that's because I think of sportscars as females: sexy, shapely, elegant, an object of envy to show off to others. I have a relationship with my RX-7, whereas my F250 is like a buddy I hang out with from time to time...friendly, faithful, not sqeamish, enjoys "manly" activities like camping, but not overly intimate or personal, kind of like we have an "I'm not a f--" seat between us at the movies. I like V8s, I respect and admire them, I think they are cool, but in a sportscar it just seems vaguely homosexual...not that there's anything wrong with that! If that's what you're into, just keep it behind closed doors and everything's cool.

Just my $0.02.

Blake, you are right, the first three were really crappy rebuild jobs, one being under my own hands (didn't break her in properly). With this last one I went all out, but relied on a Re-Amemiya reflashed ecu. No ones fault but me not going with a FC or Haltech, money was the reason at the time though, so that's my excuse and I'm sticking with it. I will stick with the rotary, it's just so frustrating.

Anybody know someone selling a used FC and 1600cc secondary fuel rail?

Sweet. So who is sitting on who's lap ? Dave says it looks like he WILL be able to make it.He thinks he won't be going up north until Monday the 27th . Dave and I installed my new sways last Friday night, what a bitch the front was. Had to drop the subframe in the rear and do the "blind" wrenching of the sway bar bushings. All was worth it though- the car handles corners like a dream now

Pinky, you know I'm gonna treat your car real nice, as long as you kept stuffing passengers in the car when I drive. If I'm alone then bets are off and I'm gonna have a faster time than you.

Man, I need to get the FD car rolling. I'm getting all these ideas of what I want to do to it and then trying to figure a way to afford it all.

Space, all you need are coilovers!

Don't have the flow for them . I would love to but I decided to go for the spring/shock/HUGE sway bars instead .Might in the future though .

Well, if your gonna modify something on your suspension, the sway bars the way to go. Still have pitch and dive issues, but at least roll rate has improved.

Alright people, who's going to the 24th track day? I know you want to take the day off. Me I'm doing a half day - early at that. Here's the info: http://www.bmwacaportland.com/drive/...6_03_24_TD.pdf

http://www.bmwacaportland.com/membership_app.pdf

People who are going:

1. Apex
2. Me
3. RX-8 Dave
4. Space
5.????

Blake, you gonna come out to this one too?

Well everthing is installed now .Dave and I did the sways last Friday ,went with the Racing Beat ones (Thanks Rob at Pineapple for getting me a sweet deal on them !).Stocks were 21mm in front and 20mm rear and these bumped up to 28mm front and 27 or 26 in the rear.Whoa what a difference-flat as a pancake through the corners (at least on the street) .You can take it for a spin on the 24th and tell me what you think .btw I went with Mazdaspeed shocks and springs

Does the bigger rear anti-sway bar make it more tail happy?

I hope so, only going to do a half day though, so I could care less about the morning. I'll ride my bike that day.
