Hey guys what do you ride? I am on the lookout for a new board and would love any suggestions.

Sounds to me like you need at least two boards--one for freestyle and one for freeride. I just bought a Burton Triumph for freeriding and am very happy with the board itself. I was riding a K2 freestyle board for years and it just wasn't cutting it on steep & deeps (I never ride the park.) The Burton board has gotten me through some rough areas (more stable) where I would have bitten it for sure on the K2. It's also a lot longer--169cm whereas my K2 is only 158cm.

I also went with Flow bindings on the Burton. I had Switch bindings on my K2. Both have their pluses and minuses. My feet have been very uncomfortable with the new setup, but it's somewhat easier to lock in. On the flip side, it's harder to get out, especially if I'm sitting on my butt.

i ride a k2 nemesis 165, i have a good friend that rode for k2 for years, now he rides for Libtech, so boards are cheap :P. Clicker pro bindings all the way, and k2/shimano boots.

i was up at 49 2 weeks ago codeblue, the riding was great, i will be organizing a group run pretty soon as well, ill let you know.

My issue is not cost……it is simply distinguishing a board from any other even no name brand…..I have really found what is “popular” really does not necessarily equate into quality nor have I really found anything other than just riding a board to be the only determining factor I have found to make my mind up about a board.

I think there is too much HYPE in this sport and no real information about what you are buying, other than the very commonplace “buy our board because this rider uses it” mentality! I always try to look at things very critically and it is very hard in the sport of snowboarding to come to any conclusion without direct contact with the board.

Example I am very partial to burton boards, yet I just recently was riding with a friend who unbeknown to him until I mentioned it had snapped the tail of his board apparently during the day of riding. I was with him all day and not once did I see a maneuver that would cause the kind of damage that was ultimately enough for him to opt out of riding the rest of the day and sent him on a quest for a new board only after a season of owning the deck.

While I have rode some “no name” brands that really pop and have great ridability while costing very little in comparison.

Right now like I said I am still running my neversummers but some of the camber is finally being lost on my primary board and I find some of the top speed I had really is lagging as of late and would like to regain it

Looking at a custom board at the moment…but that’s just because they are a trusted company and I absolutely love their rippey model.

Right now looking at a custom X simply because I like almost all the burtons I have rode, the idea of having my board unique to me would be very interesting.

I don’t know if you guys will be able to view this but this is what I would probably get with few deviations.

And I am not at all trying to make any statement at all. Simply looking for help to find a better mouse trap.

I rode dirt old boots ~7-10yrs old (been riding since I was in jr high) called “nice” boots until recently when I switched over to vans flyaway switch boa boots which are now impossibly hard to find except on ebay.

I have no qualms about using old or seemingly outdated equipment; I simply need to know its better to justify that though. Like I said in a previous post, I ride what most people regard as an inferior binding system (I like to think because I know better than most but…) switch bindings. But it is because I have seriously rode almost everything out there, and I can tell you unless you have seriously tried switch bindings you will never know what you are missing!

Most think all this support is needed, I don’t believe this is at all true, and I prefer the ability to move my ankle around while riding and even while carving at the limit of what a board will do. Like I said I really felt restricted in my abilities using the flows (not ******* on them I really like the quick release very clever and works well)

I wouldn't dog Switch bindings either. So far I've had a better experience using them than the Flows I just bought, comfort-wise at least. As for performance, I haven't noticed any difference in my ability to control the board but then again I got an entirely new setup (boots/bindings/board) so it's hard to tell if one of those had any more effect than the other. The only problem I had with Switch was getting snow in the binding. The smallest amount would prevent me from clicking in which was a major problem in deep powder. Other than that they worked great. In contrast, I'm always tripping over the high-back of the Flows when I have one foot free and kicking.

You know I was sporting the old bolt on bales for the longest time and I found the difference between the old style that bolted to the boot and the newer molded in bale style are a world of difference!

Where my old ones I had to give them a little kick to get the snow off the binding, my new ones I could just click in and what ever snow was in there would just squish out, unless the powder was deep and sticky.

But if you clip in right before you get off the lift and slide away laughing at all the fools sitting down strapping in it is a non existent problem!

The one thing that I do notice since I seriously have a fairly large collection of switch paraphernalia, is that there is a very large variance in the system and not all the equipment is perfectly compatible with all other switch compatible hardware.

I just gave my coveted all aluminum CNC ball milled team N bindings to my brother because he just got some new KLUTCH boots off ebay, and the bale sits very low on those boots and the bindings seem to work best with that boot.

Best advice I can give you is don’t cheap out on the goggles, get the best you can afford, and keep the them dry and you will be ****.

For a coat…I really endorse the bonfire line as it is a very sturdy line and great for those NW warm wet days (water just beads off from it) and you can find decent deals on the stuff if you keep your eyes pealed.

I'm up at Meadows and sometimes Timberline pretty much every weekend. It's the main reason why I relocated to PDX! It's suppose to be cold and sn*wing this wkd (^-^) I'll probably be up at meadows this sunday if anyone wants to meet up! I got room for 2 if anyone needs a ride.

Baker is nice I love how much fresh they get sometimes!

I was up there for 3 days strait and each day they had ~3Ft+ each night to wake up to!!
Sometimes they just get dumped on because of there geography.

When it was time to leave we had to dig down to the truck we took and just remove all the snow next to the passengers door and drive out of powder that completely consumed the vehicle. Luckily it was one of those powerstroke diesels, barely had any trouble getting through the large drifts once we got going.

Should be going back up to Baker in a week or three if anyone is going to be around the hill?
