Question new to rx7's

well ive been into imports for as long as i can remember lol anyways i had my s13 for a couple of years put a blacktop sr20det in it and a few other things i was going to get into drifting but just never had time to...anyways i sold my 13 and i was gunna get a 14 and put a rb25det in it because thats what my buddy has and i fell in love with it..but then i started to look at fd's and instantly fell in love....to make a long story short im looking to get a fd in the next few months and ive been reading that they need rebuilds every so many miles and i was just wondering if anyone can give me some info into what to look for when i go to buy a fd new to the whole rotary engine scene so if anyone can help me any info at all ide be very thankful

i might be selling mine....needs the front cover gasket replaced tho. Single turbo (gt40 blowzilla, vmount ic), hella fast, well regarded by the people on this forum. Engine and turbo has less than 10k on it tho. If you wanna ride just to see...let me know. It will be an eye opener for sure.

welcome to the forums. there are quite a few threads on this forum about what to look for and things to know. you should read some of the FAQs and threads in the 3rd gen section. very helpful. =]

As well as the buying FAQ, you should also understand the cost to own / run an FD. Another consideration is that if you plan to use it as your daily driver, do you have alternative transportation available.

I haven't really found the RX to be unreliable at all.

Keep the oil changed, and normal maintence.

Are you planning on getting into drifting again? Or planning on just a street car? Also, if you are constantly abusing the RX, it will probably bite back. I think a lot of people run into problems with they thrash on their car constantly. But that is true of most cars.

^ not to say that your input is null in this situation, but 3rd gens have a whole lot of issues when stock compared to the older 7's. they have the heat issues, plus the stock lines cracking, turbo probs, and oil pan leaks. and before i forget, the cruddy coolant system probs. don't even get me started on the boost solenoids.....

don't get me wrong though, i loved my FD, its just unless you have the time, money, and commitment you'll probably have the car being stored in a garage more so than you driving it.

Too true, it will stay with me for the rest of my life.

It's part of my automotive life's soundtrack.

Lol if you do get a FD your first purchase after that should be a reliable daily driver. The FD is the most troublesome of the RX-7s and is a pain in the *** to drive as a daily with the stock sequential system. Aside from that it is the most fun car I have ever owned and I wouldn't trade it for the world. But definitely educate yourself with what to expect and always make sure you have reserves for when you need them. There is a reason FD is referred to as Financial Disaster

I guess after thinking about it a bit. I had a problem with my FPD.... the whole leaking on the exhaust manifold thing. Glad mine didn't go up in flames.

Other then that. Not too much.

Never owned a FD though. But, I would love to.

If you want an FD I would look for one that has a single turbo conversion done its way less problematic than twins. Welcome

^ but would our really trust some random persons FD with a single swap? theres a LOT of things one can do incorrectly that will screw with you later when it comes to single'd FD's

^ You could say that about any car but as long as you or someone with you knows what to look for then you should be o.k.

Or get lucky like me and find a stock rx7 in a dealership and get a 4yr, 45k miles warranty with it.....I already had to replace the trans due to 5th gear problems...
