new Midpipe
Well on Saturday I got my new mid-pipe!! I went to Randy's Custom Exhaust. He made a special midpipe that so that I could still have my air pump hooked into the exhaust. This way it will make for an easy swap next November when I have to go do emissions. It wound up being $130 + tax so it was about the same as ordering one offline accept he installed it for me, so that saved me a little work. When Tim and I went back to get the car I asked how it sounded and he said, "I thought it would be louder..." and so I was a little nervous about it. Well Tim followed me back to my house in Lynnwood with my old Cat. We pulled onto the freeway in Marysville, and I flored it all the way through third, when I shifted I was right next to him and I backfired a flame that he said, "looked like an after burner flame!" and said that it hurt his ears. Since then I have gotten into it a few times and it sounds awesome. The car also seems to be running better without the old CAT in, I think that it was in bad shape, I can hear the chunks of stuff rolling around in it so...
I need to be careful now because I don't want to get a ticket for too loud exhaust. But it sounds ferakin sweet!! I can't wait till the next Rocko 7!! I will drive down and rev for you all so you can here it!!
Also, I will be moving out of Lynnwood next week and down into Renton. So I will have a new south end location closer to all of the action! I have to thank Tim for helping Me and My Fiance Jessica because we could not have done this without his help.
Well I look forward to seeing you all in a couple of weeks!
Next mod intake!!

Ok... Now that I have a completly free exhaust system I am starting to get boost Creep and the Fuel is cutting at High RPM's. Does anyone know a shop in the area that can port the wastegate? If so any ideas on what it will cost?? I am concerned about damage to the engine. I am also considering getting a boost controller based on the research I did on other peoples coments about similar issues. If anyone else has a sugestion please let me know!!
Thanks,

FYI a boost controllor will not LOWER the boost if the wastegate is allready opening in an attempt to controll it... sounds like the wg needs to be ported.
I concur, boost controler can only raise boost above the stock level not lower it. You could try restricting the air intake side to reduce the air input. Also you could go power fc, as Z beater is setting up a steve kan day.
Boost controller is just an added tool in the fight against spiking and/or boost creep. Stock fuel system is fine to run a midpipe. It's the ECU that doesn't do well with it. I haven't had any issues with creep like you're experiencin Chris (as I already told you) but you're on the right track porting the wastegate. Not sure how extensive you searched but there are multiple threads where people have ported their wastegates and provided measurements for how large of a diameter they ported their wastegate to. Useful info there.
You're welcome

Listen to tim you just need to port the wastegate. Its not even hard it takes like an hour with a dremel. I had to do it to and it worked like a charm no more boost leak.

thanks for the info! Last night when I left work I got on the freeway and watched my Boost guage. It was at 13psi with the first Turbo in 3rd gear, then when the second hit it spiked up to 16psi. I did not wait for anything after that I just went to neutral and costed down. I also tried a mid speed 4th accel and it stayed pretty level and did not really creep. I dont want to get up into the high RPM's though because of the times I hit the Fuel cutoff. The car seems to still run good so I am not too worried that I hurt the engine, so my short term remedy is to keep my foot out of the second turbo and rely on my boost guage... but only time will tell if I hurt the enine in the last few days, I really hope not.
16psi! unless your looking at a new motor soon i sugess you do something real soon. if your looking for a quick fix you can replace the wastgate and precontrol lines with the pills with regular hose to make sure your not going to spike like that until you port the wastgate or get a pfc. it will drop your boost to around 7-8 psi but your motor will be happier. just a sugestion. just make sure you label which hose goes where because they have different pill diamaters.
In my experience replacing the pills did nothing to aide in regulating boost. Lag, response times, and peak boost all remained the same with or without the pills. Really the best solution is to port the wastegate, add a boost controller, and a Power FC. Not necessarily a cheap "fix" but it will ultimately benefit your performance and reliability and safety.
i need to port my wg's so i can put on my midpipe T-T
dunno when i'll find the time to rip out the turbo though...i may rip out the turbo when i do all my vac lines....whoopie i know what i'm wasting my spring break on!
