Hey guys
I drive an '87 Sport. Everything worked fine in the dash perfectly until about 3 days ago when I boguht and put a new battery in it. Now my gauge cluster and all the lights assosciated with it work perfectly. It's the center console that doesn't work. Only like half the lights light up now if they light up at all. And my radio doesn't work anymore. I'm not sure why, the radio turns on, the antenae goes up but no sound comes through my speakers, and it doesn't hold presets anymore. I've checked all my fuses and the wiring behind the center console, and the wiring of the speakers, and everything looks fine. I'm at a loss as to what I did wrong when I hchanged the battery to cause all this to happen. Any help would be great!

 

Honestly sounds like a fuse. Maybe re-check them? Could have popped one when it got all that "new" juice.

 

Sometimes fuses look alright but don't actually work. That's what happened with the cigar/clock fuse in my '83, took me forever to figure it out. Check relevant fuses with a multimeter.

 

I did they all read fine. I'm just going to go buy all new fuses and install them and see what happens. Hopefully that will work if not, then it's back to square one.

 

I know if have popp'd the fuesable link before in my fb. I had the same symptoms, you might have something similar in your fc.

as for the stereo, if it is an aftermarket unit I would pull the power supply out and then plug it in again. it sorta resets the system and should work. this also happened to me before.

 

Nope It's the stock system,was in it when I bought the car. I have an older aftermarket CD player unit, I just haven't had timeto put it in yet. As for disconnecting the power supply for the stereo I'll give it a shot and see if that works.

Didn't worth sadly. However I now have nice. new, shiny fuses!

 

Logicons are prone to failure too. There's some threads in the 2nd gen tech section if you search. I'd try the easy/cheap stuff first though.

 

Will go and search.i hadn't even done that yet, just figured I'd bring it up here and see if anyone else has had this problem. And WTF is a logicon?

 

Haha. Logicon is the fancy name for the box with all the heater controls on it.

 

Ahh, that would explain why I've never heard of it. It sounded like somethign out of Star Tek to me.

 

check your battery connections to make sure that they are tight and also you probably have a bad ground so I would suggest checking the ground wire off the battery to make sure that its not frayed and then see if its got a good ground, cause all this sounds like is you have a bad ground somewhere.

 

Battery wires are in good shape, no frays, no corrosion, and they are tightly secured to the battery. Ground wires seem to be fine. i think it's just a fuse. That was what my guy first told me, so I'm gonna follow it. I pick upped some fuses a couple days ago and insalled them, that did't work so I did a quick mulitmeter check and everythign seems fine, but this weekend I'll be going throgh every fuse piece by piece witha multimeter, and figure this out. Not having a stero is killing me! Although the rotary engine sound is beautiful to behold. lol
