Need Help. Motor wont start, not very experienced.

I have checked everything to my knowledge.
changed fuel pump, filter, checked for any loose wires, did the jumper wire to the fuel pump.

I really really need help. Yesterday me and my frined were working on the car and now when the car is on the ON position, you cannot hear the fuel pump kick in or when your cranking it. though i think it is working because you can smell gas after cranking for so long.

We also noticed if you tug on the engine harness theres this clicking sound coming from under the TB.

Is there anyone local that can help me out or give guidance? Im really in a tight spot and im out of ideas.

Do your basic checks. Its important to note that a second gen will not run the fuel pump until it sees air in the AFM. I think it might run the pump while cranking too, but I'm not positive.

Check spark, and make sure fuel is getting PAST the injectors.

A while back when I build my TII motor, I was using alot of parts off a JDM block. It turns out that the fuel pulsation dampener is on the opposite rail as it is in the US version, and as a result you have to connect the fuel lines backwards as to what you would do with the US rails. That had me stumped for DAYS.

Well i have the intake unbolted from the TB but the wiring to it is connected. so i dont see that being the issue cause it didnt start even with it bolted on.

Regardless. It will NEVER start with the intake not bolted to the TB. You have created a vacuum leak of epic proportions by doing this.

well its been bolted back...still have clicking in the harness. still not starting. double checked my plugs. igniters marked with white go to the front rotor, plugs still good. Put jumper wire back to wire the fuelpump on and cranked but still no start.

I didnt know it was bad till now so dont bash me.. i DID get it to start by spraying starting fluid in the TB. But it would die as soon as you stop spraying. later found out your not supposed to cause you'll start a fire.

well it sounds liek youhave a fuel issue if thats the case. are you getting fuel to the injectors? and not sure if it matters with your car or not but the resistor pack for the injectors plugged in?

the resistor pack is only there if you have low inp injectors. its up by where the boost sensor is.silver i think?
the clicking might be emmisions related? you still got all tht stuff? cant really help you with tht stuff, i ditched it all so i can help kill the earth!!! bahahah

ok so your clicking is coming from the rats nest i bet. i wouldnt worry too much about that.

but you need to figure out if your getting fuel or not to the injectors. from the sounds of it no gas is making it into the motor..

hmmm I didnt think about this. So in the 88.5 model year, they switch from low impedance injectors to high impedance injectors. The low impedance models had a resistor pack on the passenger side of the engine bay. So it looks like you might have a high impedance car, since you have an 88 (there is a VIN split in 88 for the injectors). Look for the resistor pack. If it isnt there, and you swapped a motor from another s4, you may need to add resistors to get the injectors to work. Or switch to high impedance injectors.

If you are unsure, snap some pics of your engine bay and we can tell you if you have the resistor pack or not.

i dont know what the resistor pack looks like so i just checked everything by the secondaries for anything loose and didnt find anything. is there anyway to test the injectors? i have a garage full of tools and testers and such. Father in law is a master mechanic but he isnt here. what do i eed to test?

ok thts the plug. it appears you dont have the box. now take one of your injectors and an ohms meter and test it and report back with the number you get

Something else. If that plug is just sitting there... it means you have NO power going to the injectors AT ALL. You will need to make sure that you have the low impedance injectors in that motor, and then you will need to find a resistor pack, or construct your own. If you have high impedance injectors on the motor, you will need to modify the harness to eliminate the resistor pack.

Has the car ever run before? If it didn't, perhaps the previous owner removed the resistor pack?

It should be right where it is in the pic I posted if its there.

shouldnt be too hard to find one real close to you. someone has to ahve a space sittin around somewhere..
