My Terrible experiances with Rx's So far....

Heres the background on the project, what I've got... what I need. And what I've got no clue on how to accomplish.

I bought the car from a guy who LOVED the Rx. He saw me as an Avid Rotary fan ( Which I will not dispute ) howver, I'm not as knowledgeable as I'd like to be. That said. The motor gave out about 5 months after purchasing the car. So naturally.. I decided I'd do what all of my friends were doing. - A Motor Swap -. But of course..I had to be the oddman out. They all had 240sx's. 1 Coupe and 3 Hatch's. But I never liked those cars.. just... Not quite right. So I decided I'd swap the Rx, being as it needed a new motor and all. So we pulled the motor, and I bought an FD clip, as it would come with everything I'd need... or something like that. So I bought it, and I didnt realize that it was going to be so difficult. Upon learning that mounting this thing was going to be a pig, I bought the Fc-REW mounts from Mazdaspeed7. Ahh.. One hurdle out of the way. Oh.. Whats that? Oh Yes. Someone decided it would be a good idea to check and re-check the vac lines. So I followed their recommendations, and I started replacing all of the Vac lines with silicone lines. Somehow, I broke off a few of the selinoid nipples, and had to track those down. Got those now. Somehow I broke off a nipple from the Turbo elbow pipe, and the vac canister on the engine it self. Then ( While I was changing the spark plug wires ) had someone run up and pull them off of the motor. And now I THINK I have them right.

All in all, I believe everything that can go wrong with my swap has gone wrong effectively. My accel cable was snapped. the guy I had help me pull my motor cut my clutch line. I guess I should be thankful that my brakelines are still in 1 piece.

I've got quite a bit of money wrapped up in thei quaint little disaster of a project car that I can only dream about driving.

And so... I've got a driveline coming tomorrow, and I'm de-powering my steering rack in the morning as to accomidate the lack of powersteering that I'll be allowed with the REW.

I'd like to get my AC back at some point, but I'm not 100% sure how to go about that.

Now for the icing on the cake. I spent so much money elsewhere I cant afford an aftermarket ECU, so I'm stuck with the FD one or the FC one.. and since the FC one wont run the REW properly... I've got to come up wtih a way to wire the FC chassis to the FD ECU. I've got ALL of the FD wiring, And I've got MOST of the FC wiring.. all the stuff going to the motor was Sawzalled off. I know.. not smart, but hey.. who ever said rednecks with powertools are smard ( No - I'm not talking about me )

So I guess in retrospect, if I was to do this again, I'd go a little slower, and make sure I only brought people that were familiar with doing things right into the picture.

I'll be posting pictures of what I've got and where I'm stuck for a while.

!st update will come in the morning. When I re-tackle the vac issue.

Yeah, your mistake was going with an REW-swap... A TII-swap would've been a walk in the park compared with what you're attempting.

I've been working on these cars professionally for a couple years now and I personally would never attempt an REW-swap into an FC. An RE-swap sure, but not the FD engine. Just not worth it.

I just got done putting a ported FD engine into a fc,with all of the t2 externals, the customer didn't have enough money for the power fc, it took forever, and i've been playing with rotaries since the mid 80's,this was by far the hardest swap i'vr ever done.

1 GTU wheel - 1 hatch arm, Pass front fender, Oil cooler, that IC.

I'm going to be putting the motor into the car this weekend.. I thinkI'm goingto have to figure something out tranny wise, I'mnot sure if it'll work with the FC

Also, a freakin starter. I'm not sure which FC one I need, but if you've got both turbo and n/a bring 'em :-p

What tranny did you use?

I guess I'll go over to an aftermarket ECU when I get the money, but as I only come into money half the year, and this isnt that half... I guess I'll have to make due with what I have..

But like I said.. I jumped in, with no ideawhatI was getting into.

You should be able to use a TII tranny? I've heard FD guys use them, but I'm not sure if anything else is required... Pretty sure the flywheels are the same as the s5 TII's.

I'd like to just use the 3rd gen tranny. I've got an S5 turbo tranny, but I dont have the clutch's and everything else.

Maybe just spend that $1000 on a 13B-T swap and sell your REW? Hate to suggest it, considering you've already gone down the REW path, but at least you'd save yourself the continued heartache...
