Has any one ever drove on East Mercer Way on Mercer Island, this is by far the crazyest most twisty road I have ever seen. It is the closest thing to a rallie road I ve seen in the Seattle area. I recommend this road if you want to go test your suspension out. Lots of blind corners and off camber hairpin turns. You can drive it one way and turn around and go the other for a completely different road. I would recommend driving it at night so you can see where the other traffic is (look for other cars headlamps) and there are not as many people out. I wouldn't get to crazy during the day time because alot of people are on it (pedestrians and cyclest). I personally have never seen any police on this road but they are out there. Remember to drive safe if you try going here because one false move could be really serious there are steep drop offs but most of all have fun.

 

Thats funny I just drove on it for the first time last week. I was in my work van, so i didn't have any fun. Also lots of runners and construction, but definately a bad *** road. and its pretty long too.

Around my parts, up in the Issaquah/Sammamish plateau, we have what we call the "Fall City Backroads". Very fun road, full of treacherous turns and corners. Fairly remote area too; there are some people that live there, but not many. The nice forest setting also adds to the nice atmosphere of good old mountain "touge" driving. Also very dangerous. Deaths are not uncommon on the road. I myself wrecked my first car there...no guardrails. Took a corner too fast and lost traction, slid right off the road and landed inbetween two trees. Luckly, I was the only one in the car, and no one else was involved/harmed.

Morale of the story? It's not worth it. Please, save it for the track. The roads are tempting, and even at night, there will always be a few people wandering the roads, whether by car or by foot. Not to mention, the roads are much harder to navigate by nightfall. Take care of yourselves.

 

Craziest road I have ever seen was a short (1/2 mile ??) next to the Clackamas river in Oregon City. It was built where the landfill used to be and over time it settled.......It looked like a roller coaster! hahaha Most people didn't know about it, but it was a good short cut and usually cement trucks that used it. You would catch air at anything over 35-40mph. It is still there, but blocked off since it starting getting these wicked sink holes.....It was fun while it lasted!

 

Yeah there is this other really sick road over in eastern washington/idaho area. I think the town is called Lewiston and Clarkston, I don't remember which is which, but the road was made for wagons to be able to travel down a realy steep hill, the thing looks like it was made for racing down there are only like five houses on the entire road. The best part is you could film yourself for the top because there is a look out there and you can see the entire road from up there. I haven't taken my rx there but I but people over in the spokane area might know what I m taking about.

North Cascades Highway US20 its like 80 miles of curves and scenery.

 

Let's see in Portland metro area there's 224 (The road to Estacada from highway 205) and Skyline Rd (******* sick *** road, but too many driveways). South Washington there's 25 (East of Mount Saint Helens) and Oregon coast there 53 (off of highway 101).

Ahh yes Skyline used to rick! I used to have a crotch rocket in the early 90's (not so many people on that road then) and I worked by the St.Johns bridge and at lunch I would go for a little drive ;D Still brings a smile to my face thinking about it.

We used to do 224 and go to Indian Henry campground until one of the guys try to keep up with us and took a 15 or 20 mph corner at 90mph and hit some bumps in the middle of the road and slid with his passenger off the road....they were ok other than some broken bones and bike....

 

I drive skyline every day on the way home. Either that or fight traffic on hwy 26...which would YOU choose

A road thats worth checking out if your near pullman or Mosscow is the Old Spiral HWY that goes down into Lewiston Idaho right on the border. Many hair pin corrners but since it runs along cliffs you can see that there are no on comming cars. Here is a site that has a panaramic picture from the top it winds all the way down to the river in the distance. I believe its 4-6 miles long and you drop/gain 2000ft of elevation. and no I have never encountered goats

Too good. Thats the road that I was discribing on the first page, I went there before I even had wheels and fell in love with that road, has anyone taken there rx on it.

 

When I used to live in Carlsbad, Ca. I would got east to ride Palomar Mtn Rd. One of the best roads I have ever been on, and because it's so tight cops can't effectively patrol there, so they don't. Motorcycles own that road during the weekend, you see a lot of non street legal race bikes on that road. The picture of me on my bike in my vbGarage pics is of Palomar.

My wife's Grandparents have a place in Manzanita so she's traveled Hwy 53 many times. So many turns and switchbacks her family calls it the crookedy road. It's about 19 miles on OR 53 from US 26 to US 101. Fun stuff.

 

...try SR 542 East of Glacier. The fun begins with the newly paved stretch all the way up to Artist's point. BTW- This time of year the scenery is pretty impressive!

Use caution though- Many slooooow RV's/Motorhomes (& gravel trucks before the switchbacks) could potentially put an abrupt end to all the fun in one of many blind curves.
