O crap I got a faster time than I thought!

Here's the times for Mod Class:

Adam Griffith, Mod RWD, Apex Restoration, 1993 Mazda RX-7 - 1.28.07 Champion
Eddie Nakato, Mod AWD, Adrenaline Racing, 05 Subaru STI - 1.29.67 Champion
Eric Bizek, Mod FWD, COBB Tuning, 07 Mazdaspeed3 - 1.32.21 Champion
Eric Cotton, Mod AWD, World One, 05 Subaru STI - 1.34.65
Fred Romanl, Mod RWD, Race Design Graphics, 1993 Mazda RX-7 - 1.38.97
Chase Aaron, Mod RWD, Forged Performance, 1993 Mazda RX-7 - 1.39.498
Ryan Douthit, Mod RWD, Rotary Speed Magazine, 08 Mazda RX-8 - 1.41.122

Fred's FD is mostly stock, with PFC, exhaust and my old well used Bridgestone Pole Positions tires and wheels.
Chase's FD is well modded with a single turbo, but not the greatest tires for this event, his oil temps were rather high and I believe he had an engine bay fire during qualifying.
There was another FD, the red one, but there's no time for him. He drives one of the Star Mazda race cars, lucky SOB.

As far as setup I definitely had an advantage over the RWD grid. Eddie was my only real challenge.

You need a sticker for your Star Mazda that says "My other ride is an FD"

And on your FD "My other ride is a Star Mazda"

Out of curiosity what set-up is powering your Star Mazda car?

hehe ya i should do that, the drivetrain for the star mazda, is a the N/a 13b renesis out of the rx8 except with a full exhaust, motec engine management, fuel system, and intake.
its mated with a hewland 6 speed sequential tranny with no lift shift.

yea its not a huge amount of power but the car only weighs 1200 lbs and with the sequential it rips pretty good, top speed is around 180mph/280kph.

0 to 60 mph is under 2.9 seconds (varys on track and weather conditions)

and the cost for the sm car brand new is 150,000$ for just the car, every race costs a bunch too with tires approx 4 sets at 2k each fuel maintence, transportation of the car, enginnering etc etc lol the list goes on.

so basically you need sponsors to run or you can do it if your extremly extremely wealthy,

the price for a full season is around $350,000, THIS PRICE IS WITHOUT ANY CRASH DAMAGE..... lol wich can be alot!

Congrats Adam!

I was there, but just briefly. (I made sure I broke away from work to see the Time Attack) and then headed right back to work.

very impressive.

Just wish I could have had more time to actually enjoy the event as a whole.

Hey Adam, your car looked sweet with those graphics! Who did that for you? Seems like they were well thought out and took a long time to put them on. Maybe other people would like to know where you got those bad *** graphics!

And thank you to Bill White, for the car corral parking (even though I didn't use it)

It was great.

Thanks to everyone that came out.

We're already talking about doing it again next year. Part of our goal for next year's Driving Sports Time Attack Challenge will be to expand the amount of track time we're allocated and to control our own timing (thereby being able to post times after each round.) Qualifying sessions will also help up get 6-8 cars out on the track safely since we'll have a better handle on speed differentials.

And next year, I expect my RX-8 will be a lot faster. :p

Cheers,

Ryan

HELL YEAH ! Nice save on turn 6 on the 2nd lap (1st timed i prsume) then that whole wig wag the dog through turns 10 - 12 with the wall coming up save was sweet. Then the last 10 seconds of vid where you went off was classic. Heard you hit the throttle right out of 6 and then whoosh - you became a dirt farmer. Awesome ! Looks like you had a blast. Congrats Adam

That tank slapper was a pretty scary moment.

What caused it? Too hard to tell from the video.

Too much speed? Lift? Brake too late?

Inquiring minds want to avoid doing the same.

Too much speed for the line I took, I was already at the limit of adhesion when I applied the throttle. I cleaned up my line considerably during the main (especially during my fastest lap), which allowed me to apply the throttle sooner.

On the front straight I was around 145+ mph, I stopped looking at the speedo at around 120 mph and started focusing on by braking point. I was at WOT for an additional ~10 seconds after I stopped looking at my gauges.

On the back straight I was in the low 150+ mph.
