Looking to replace my motor
Looking to replace my motor
So here is whats on my mind i figured you guys would have some good answers for me. I am in the army and am finally getting out in 3 months. I am from Laconner WA and have a 88 vert there. Well the motor is on its last legs but i have a rebuilt motor ready for it in my garage. I dont have an a huge amount of cash flow because when i get out i will have no job and be setting up for school and trying to learn how to be normal again lol.
So here are my options i could try and do the motor myself but i dunno how hard it would be and my mechanical know how is ok but not super. Does the atkins video show the whole proccess like how to pull the motor and whole nine yards? How hard is the proccess?
My other option is to pay someone to do it for me wich im not opposed to it especially if there is anyone on the forums who does such a thing out of their garage. Basically they would have a good amount of time with it and up front cash for fluids ect
In total what i want is to replace the motor with the rebuild and replace the clutch while its out and mabey give the rebuild a light street port.
So if anyone has any opinions if i can do it my self or if anyone would be interested in a little extra cash post here or PM me
Thanx

get a haynes manual, my son swapped engines in his 86 na in a couple days, as a first time mechanical project. You will need an engine hoist or some other method of lifting the engine out of the bay. not too dificult if you follow the directions. if you can find a bruce turentine vid, it is great for letting you get an idea of r and r.
i'm sure you can do it. it's not that difficult. hell, my wife got her car ready to pull. all i had to do is the front bolts and pull it. now as for doing a port, in order to do that you would have to pull apart the motor and pretty much rebuild it again. not worth it if the motor is good.
