Introduction of SHOpartsNW
Looks like a pretty active NW group, so I thought I would introduce myself.
Last month, I bought an 81 RX-7 for my wife to race. It is an SCCA prepped ITA class race car. She is the racer, and I am the mechanic. I have worked on cars all my life, but I am new to Mazdas, so it is kind of like starting over.
Our other interests, and what led us to racing , is Taurus SHOs. A friend and I sell obsolete and custom parts for SHOs (Ford abandoned the aftermarket long ago). We have two custom supercharged SHOs that are still in tuning, but they put out about 370hp at the wheels right now - more to come as the tuning progresses. We regularly take them to the open track events at PIR and PR (SIR) and love to play the underdog with the Vipers, Vettes and Cobras. They don't have a racing classification for SHOs, so we picked up the RX-7 for her to go racing.
I plan to totally go through the car over the winter and will probably build up a fresh motor before spring.
And now to read the thousands of threads on this forum.

Angel,
Thanks for all the welcomes.
I might make it to the Izzy's meeting, but I can't take the RX7 (only one seat and not street licensed yet). Would you accept a SHO?
I am down in the Vancouver area, so it would still be a two hour drive to Izzy's.
Just out of curiosity, what is the average age range for the local group?

ive always had a soft spot for shos even though i despise ford and especially the tortise, but that damn yamaha damn near race prepped v6 gets my dick hard...
believe if there was an affordable way to get the sho v6 into an rx7 and still maintain rwd i would be saving every cent i had to git r done.

Send your friend my way. We have two supercharged SHOs to demonstrate in, and about 20 assorted parts SHOs for spare parts. I have seen one turbocharged SHO and I know of a guy selling a turbo kit, but it still takes a lot of work to make it run right.
The only thing Ford about a SHO is the sheet metal. The motor is all Yamaha, and the transmission is a Mazda.
Out of the box the cars put out 220hp, and it is not that hard to get them up to 250-270. Our supercharged cars are putting down 370hp at the wheels with a mild tune. I hope to hit 400hp at the wheels by spring. All this, and the cars continue to make power up through about 8500rpms and it makes for a fun car. Needless to say, my wife surprizes a lot of people with her 4 door grocery getter.
I have seen a lot of conversions with this motor, so an RX7 is not out of the question. In fact, I might even know where a spare motor is that is already mated to a Ranger 5 speed transmission. Want to try a conversion?
