Insurence called my car a sports car??

I got a call from my Insurence Agent of American Family today saying that I need to find a new car or find another Insurence company because they won't Insure a Sports car. I am 20 with one recent ticket for going 3 over in a 40. So, with that recent ticket, I guess it sent it over. But its a 22 year old 100HP rx7, not some porsche. So have anybody else had this same issue? Do you have any companies that work for you?

A lot of insurance companies will classify ALL 2 seater (or 2 door) cars sports cars. Ran into that problem before. If they won't insure you then they aren't a very good insurance company. Look elsewhere.

rx-7=sports cars. lightweight (depends), quick, turbo(depends), handles and has 2 doors n 2 seats. this is the reason i cant have my car on my insurace. on my insurance i drive my moms 88 honda accord and they pay liability on my 7. so im pretty interested to see what happens when i move out and have an fc.

The RX-7 really is a sports car. Not the fastest at the drag strip, but...

Geico is not great because of how much effort they put into maximizing the number of speeding tickets written. They are extremely anti-enthusiast. They'd probably raise your rates if they heard you posted on this board.

I've had good luck with both Allstate and State Farm. Of the two I think State Farm is better, but Allstate will insure just about anybody on just about anything.

I have Geico. Both my 87 Accord hatch and the 7. They have been pretty good to me.

If you don't want to worry about the sports car insurance rates, get a honda. Paying more for insurance is just part of the sports car thing. Even more so the younger you are.

Safeco is great with me. Of course I have a plan through my parents cause im only 19. My rates are actually reasonable since I have a daily and my 7 is on limited use, but full coverage of course.

When my last FD got wrecked I have been dealing with the other drivers insurance, Farmers. To be blunt, I hate them with every ounce of my body. I hope I can take them for all theyre worth with my medical suit. I spent 2 months calling them every day and arguing the value of my car. Oh well...Just a heads up.

I've been thinking about this for quite some time now.... My FC is going to have a swapped out engine (TII). How will insurance cover that? My mom couldn't really answer my question, she said usually they go by the VIN#. Thanx in advance for any help with my question...

^^ That's a toughy cuz technically an engine swap is illegal in some aspects. Receipts and Comprehensive with EXTRA coverage for modifications is the only way to cover it. BUT you MUST have all receipts and it will be devalued by the insurance company and MOST of the stuff they will try to claim as a factory option that has no worth or influence on value of the car. I dealt with that when my Integra was stolen.

With Progressive's DRIVE insurance my FD is not classified as a sports car. My insurance is very reasonable and I don't have the cleanest driving record, but it isn't bad and most of the stuff is from my teenage years...

Country Companies is one to avoid. Any 2 door car is a sports car. Pemco as well should be avoided.

My insurance company tried to do that to me with my FB. Told me they wouldn't insure a teenager in a sports car. But I never did anything about it and they are still insuring me at the same rate, so...

They didn't for me. When I bought my first RX-7 around the age of 19 they dropped me immediately because I had wrecked my previous car (a Honda Civic.)

I ended up getting Farmers at the time. Now I'm with Allstate.

^^^You're in good hands with AllState.

I was actually really impressed with Drive insurance rates by Progressive. All others were very unreasonable and won't insure MOST males under 25 who drive a 2 door car.

Wow, progressive has always been really difficult for me. They'll insure me, but their rates are really high. I think they're only price competitive on minivans and camrys.

I have Farmers Insurance...my father sells insurance (my agent) so I'm sure he doesn't classify my car as a sports car....there has to be a HP number met for certain companies to LEGALLY be able to use the sports car phrase because..in all honesty....those two words "sports and car" put together do cost you added money...my dad also told me when I asked him this question that Geico and Allstate have unique cars like 240SX and such as sports cars because they don't make enough money independently...I don't know if he is trying to sell me or is full of ****...but thats my dad..lol

It seems like a two-seat car should be LESS expensive to insure... fewer distractions with only one passenger...

For an insurrance company to call your car a "sports car" they have to show that it was never offered with back seats in the US. That's why Cameros allways had those crummy non cushined back seats. That made it a passenger car. FB's and FD's are technically sports cars, while the FC is a passenger car.

My FD is NOT classified a sports car with Drive by Progressive =) Nor is my SHO (4 door)... I'm just gonna keep buyin high performance cars until I find a "sports car"!! AND My Camaro was labeled initially as a sports car by Country Companies. We had to prove to them they were idiots cuz they wouldn't insure me in a 1986 2.8L V6 Camaro cuz it was a "sports car". I have 2 accidents, 2 speeding tix, and 2 other tickets for other little things and I pay roughly $800 for full coverage on my SHO (cuz I drive clients around always) and what I like to call "pleasure car" insurance on the FD to protect it while it is in the garage lonely.

PS: Adrian, the moment I saw you were selling your car I lost all respect for you and you are no longer a feature on my cell phone

HA HA AHAAA classic. Remember they don't have to call it a sports car, but if they want to they can and bump your rates. And I won't sell it if I can get a cheap daily. Besides that I doubt I'll get what I want for it.

I got a car you can have for free... As long as you don't have to back up it drives fine lol

I second the insurance companies' right to bump rates for no reason... Illustration: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FtEp5yc-g3A
