I'm Ready To Spend More Money

Where is a great place to buy a rebuild kit from Japan? I read something a while ago about someone else getting a seal kit which includes side, corner, apex seals etc from Japan. I just want better apex seals than the oem ones.

Use the search function on here and youll find that the OEM seals are what almost all people prefer. The only ones better that every one aggrees on are the ceramics, but they run over a $1000 a set. The stock seals are excellent. Just need good tuning.

If your main concern is durability and strenght, I can get you wide peaned seals from Japan in 2mm or 3mm fashion. What they do is beat the seals with really small ***** to relieve the surface tension so that pings are less likely to cause a crack. You could probably just go with 3mm seals and be ok too.

3mm seals arent really necesary. I would spend the money on good tuning rather than seals. Ralph at ground zero make 700+hp on 2mm seals. The peened seals sound interesting though.

Hey thats some great info, thanks guys. Say now i have another question. Anyone have available space and are knowledgable plus willing to help me with my rebuild? Of course I'll be paying you for your help. I'd rather not take it to a shop and have to grab my ankles.

True that, they tend to forget to use the lube and just raw dog you anyways. You'll walk bull legged for months.

Well whenever is fine. Im not in a huge rush. Though a couple friends and i are planning on going to the mountains for some racing around June or July and it would be cool if my car was ready. Though it really doesnt matter to me if i have to wait longer.

I'd love to take my engine apart, though there i live they won't allow it.

Have you tore into you blown engine yet? Find out if you need a JDM first. Then decide if your engine is rebuildable and go from there. If you have the money to spend and want it to definately work than I would go with the OEM 2mm 2-piece seals. I hear RX-7 Specialties also makes great apex seals and for somehwat less than OEM (they are in Canada though). For the time and money it sounds like you plan on putting into it I would personally get a reabuild kit with hardened gears and oil pump, MFR high oil pressure regulator, and get yourself a good healthy porting. I am not sure if you have an s4 or s5, but if you have an s4 ECU I would spring on the new RTEK 2.0. That way you can have standalone tuning ability without spending the extra thousands to purchase, install, and tune.
Oh yeah... And while you are at it maybe figure out a better hood venting/couling setup to help keep that IC cool.
Glad to hear your ******* has healed since your last raping... Hope your next expirience isn't as bad.
Just make sure you get it done ASAP in time for ABF. If you are going to go anywhere for your work I would make it Corksport.
Keep us informed!
Good luck!

PS: Adrian I got the Turrentine rebuild DVD (top notch!). You helped me out with obtaining a TB to mod, so maybe I can help you out and lend you my rebuild DVD if you still need one.

Ground-Zero has more than one FD, both in the 600-700 RWHP range (depending on the setup de jour). Both engines built by Pineapple Racing. I don't remember off-hand what the other one is, but the silver car is a 3mm rotor engine (IIRC). It was just here last week for a rebuild. Ralph experiments with his own cars, so his customers don't have to blaze new trails. He is also a proponent of the philosophy of "experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted". He has blown up a lot of stuff finding out where the edges of the envelope are, and thus is very experienced. I think we're on the 9th engine in five years, between both cars. We keep building them and he keeps pushing the envelope. 30psi boost is "normal". It's a great relationship for both businesses. Last time, he broke an eccentric shaft in two. The black car now has a problem with traction in 4th gear!

Anyway, we highly recommend 3mm seals to anyone who is not using a professional tuner and is doing anything remotely risky. 2mm seals make more power and, given perfect tuning, are just as reliable...but, what if. What if the tuning is wrong; what if the FPR goes south; what if you get a bad tank of gas?...the 3mm seals are a safety net for those who need one. It adds about $500 to a rebuild but is cheaper than doing a second rebuild when you make a mistake.

I talked to kouta a while back about the hood. Though i have some guy pming me that he has an alum na hood to trade and im really really interested in that.
