Depends how rich they are. If they're prepared to spend 20K on some other car for you, point out its relatively low cost and how much you'll learn working on it, and offer to pay the extra insurance premiums yourself.

If they're like most parents then they'll be saying "why don't you get this nice 1996 Saturn" in which case, get a job, or start learning about the merits of 1st and 2nd gen cars (and they have plenty!)

tell them it is a faster car in which case u will be less agressive in it because u dont want to get a ticket if that doesnt work then tell them that the honda will probably have a higher insurance because it is a honda they are relativly easy to steal n the new honda civics have the most wanted engine in the world the K-20. n u can tell them that since it is a two seater u wont beable to fit more than one other person in the car so u'll beable to focus more on the road instead of ur dumb obnoxious loud friends in the back seat.

No offense, but this won't turn out good for the FD. Within 2-3 weeks, it'll be totalled. I can't tell you how many times I've heard this story. Get the civic, and have something thats reliable, and gets great fuel mileage. CJ

i got my fd when i was 16 and let me tell you. If you're looking for a fd to be your dd just make sure there's another car you can take just incase something happens, cause i've been immobile sooooooooo many times.

Almost exactly what I was thinking. In all honesty, your parents would have to be very stupid to buy you an FD. It may not seem like it from your perspective but in 10 years you will understand.

My parents refused to get me an RX7 when I was 15 and about to turn 16. It took me till I was 19 to get it on my own. It would have been VERY bad if I had it when I was 16.

+1 my first car was a 64 buick special. with that i had the ability to drive away from basically anything that i hit which made learning how to handle a rwd car in the snow and ice alot more trouble free.

Haha, I DID have an Rx7 when I was 16... The only problem was I was paying $360 a month in insurance.

Like everyone else has mentioned--your parents would be foolish to let a young driver have an FD. No offense, but even an FC can be dangerous to an inexperienced RWD driver... Shoot, I let my brother-in-law drive my BONE-STOCK N/A Rx7 the other day and he almost crashed it (seriously), because he didn't understand the steering characteristics. He's been driving for well over 5 years.

Sorry mang.

i had a TII when i was 16. i drove it a while, then had to sell it because i couldn't afford the insurance+gas+maintenance at the time. now i'm 18, about to turn 19. i could buy an FD if i wanted to, but if its less reliable than the FC, i think i'll just get another FC until i have money in the bank in case something goes wrong with the FD.

don't get an FD for your first car.

I agree, get the civic.

When I read things like "How can I convince my parents to get me an FD?" it makes me die a little on the inside.

I don't think that you will truly respect an FD that has been handed to you, now if you work hard for a year or two and save up 15 g's to buy one yourself it might change the way you respect it and in the process keep you and the car alive.

find a nice FC or FB in the mean time to keep you happy and learn on, thats what i HAVe been doing since I was 16.
