I was curious. did you swap the turbo transmission when you did the swap? I have been running the stock fb trans behind a s4 t2 engine with no probs. have you hadany trans problems yet? Also just curiouse about howmuch power you make?

I swapped in the motor first and got running with the major bugs worked out. Ran it with a 12a aluminum flywheel and s-5 counterweight, so i could run my 12a 5 speed for a few months. Then I swapped in the s-5 t2 tranny. I didn't have any issues running the 12a, except for synchros which on their way out before the swap. Suprisingly enough they are a tough little tranny, and weigh about 25 to 40 pounds less than the t2 tranny I dynoed 190 at 7 to 8 psi at apple blossom last spring. Full 3inch exhaust, no emissions, msd and coils on the leading, e fan, cone filter, and tid, and a walboro 255 were my mods at the time of the dyno.

woundup..I have a 91 n/a S5 and performed a S4TII motor/trans/diff/axle swap. I too installed a safc..actually, our engine set ups are exact..injectors/emmisions, etc. The weird thing is that the car fired up and ran relatively well for 20 miles. Then, it happened. The EXACT readings and runabilty problems that you had/have. Insane back fire, flames..have to hold the gas down to keep it running. If you give it more than a 1/4 throttle it would cut out and pop, etc. We tried running off the flapper, and then the pressure sensor instead...nadda. So, after all of the hours and blood, and a couple of patient and willing freinds..the car sits. It looks awesome however! Awesomely stupid sitting in my shop..I missed the last track day out at PIR also. Chitty. Any ideas?

Unbelievable, exactly the same b.s. i had. Maybe we should get together and have afc burning party. Are you using the afc-1 or the afc-2 ? Did you buy it new or used? Well you must be luckier than me, I didn't even get 20 minute, instant **** in my Cheerios. Sorry to hear about you bad luck. I have no idea what went wrong. and why my ecu lost some of its timing ability. You may have to get another ecu to get it running again. My ecu is basically a paper weight now. If you can think of anything let me know.
Thanks

did you guys read my post? I think it may be possible that the signal and supply wires from/to the afm are backwards. afm sensors produce a higher voltage as throttle is opened/air flow increases. If it thinks it is wot all the time then you are going to have to have the throttle opened all the way to get it to run.I think it is running real rich because the computer is thinking there is a WOT condition when there is not. Correct me if I am mixed up about your application but I think you need to run that signal wire to the throttle signal (needs throttle signal to tell computer where throttle position is at to adjust fuel accordingly, probably why you were backfiring). If it is not that I could only think that maybe you got a bad part from the Honda guy.

LOL Yeah it sucks..total BS. I have a SAFC2..here's the thing..it was used from the car that I raped for the motor/drivetrain swap. I drove the donor car, and except for a slight hesitation the car tore the rears off. When I swapped it, it ran slightly worse, but I am running my S5 n/a ECU. The ECU is compatable with the TII ECU, since they both share the same maps. It ran for about 20 miles..from my shop home, around a bit and back. The car sat for about 30 minutes and I went to give a buddy a ride..weird, it won't start...hmmm. crank crank crank crank...wait for it..
POW!!! Holy **** it was loud!! Like a damn cannon. Uh oh!! A friend of mine is getting me another ECU to try. Will use a TII ECU since it is available. My shop is in Beaverton..if you are close we should have that ECU burn behind my shop!

That's a good call..I'll check that tomorrow..actually check that. The afc is unwired at this time..like woundup I tried to go back to original mode and no luck. Perhaps if the wires were wrong, it's too late for the little guy?

That was the other thing, not just a typical backfire. It sounded like a dam pipe bomb going off. and bright white flames. ..

On mine I am totally positive the wires were not reversed, I checked everything 3 times and actully made a diagram with pin location, wire colors, and tie in or tap in procedures, I put a check mark next to it after I finished it. All the wire connections were soldered and taped. A little on the **** side am I. But that is how i did my swap from scratch and it fired up on the first key turn,... Thanks for the info. Do you want to take the afc to school and test it out or use it some how? Let me know.
Thanks

To school? Where are located? I don't get how the concern happened. I did not wire the afc myself..I have a friend who is a guru and asked him to do it for me. He has tons of experience with 7's and more knowledge than I'l ever aquire. Even he was stumped! Hmmm.

Sorry I was responding to riggins post, I believe he is in automotive tech school. I usually see at the Izzy's meets.

yeah I am in school and just finished sensors (MAP, MAF, BARO, ECT, CKP, CMP, IAT, etc.). I got a fairly good understanding of how they work and a basic comprehension of a range that most sensors fall into. Final/ last day of class for me is Monday so maybe I could lend a hand during some of the extra free time (if there is any) I will have with school being on break.

No I haven't yet. My buddy with the ECU will get it to me in the next couple days. Hopefully that will do the trick
