Talking Hi all, somewhat of a newbie here reporting...

I had a different screen name but I made it 2 years ago or something like that, so I just changed it.

So I have been looking for a toy/2nd/weekend car and trying to decide what to do. I had been 90% settled on a 2nd Gen Mr2. However, I've always loved the lines of the Rx7 1000x more.

I believe I'll be getting a roller or the like, and doing the LS1 swap. *dodges rocks thrown by purists*

So to be completely honest I don't know a ton about working on cars, and invariably even less about Rotaries. However, I very much want to learn.

The MR2 guys had a shop they went to on the weekends and pitched in help to work on others cars, hang out, etc. It was a great place for me to learn. While everyone else was shooting the breeze I wanted to get stuff done.

Now, I'm curious if there is something like that the RX7 guys have going on? Any regular meets around this area?(probably not so much now that weather is turning)

I have seen the dedicated RX7 room at Round Table (I believe thats what it was) in Portland at the the 2nd or 3rd exit after the Terwilliger Curves.

I think most people get hooked on the rx7 after they drive one. Go out and find one for a test drive,, You might change your mind about a motor swap. The unique motor in these cars it what separates them from from the croud. Of coures they make a good platform for a motor swap, but then you would just have another muscle car. Take it out and hammer it up past redline , yeah up past the buzzer and listen for the engine saying more more more. Then you will know why the other guys are here.

Well said john. Do just what he said. Run that baby out til you think she's got no more, then push it even more. You'll be surprised.

I don't think I'd be happy about thrashing on someones car. Plus the weather isn't cooperating now.

I'm not to the point where I am confident in myself to work on it completely or all the time, so I don't think sticking with the rotary is a good thing.

well, i was on the same boat. I dont know much bout mechanics and especially rotary motors. i bought mine with the swap halfassed complete. I had to sort out issues and problems and try to make em right.
the thing i do like bout the v8 is that they are plentiful and everywhere. if you wanna build a muscle car... it would be the way to to do it.

i do love the sexy lines of the rx7. I just couldnt see the car go to the junkyard because my friend didnt wanna deal with his issues (the tranny kept puking). thts why i bought the car. .. while working on my 2 civics and 240.

if my friend had the fc with a rotary, i'd still take it as well. I'm not a big fan of swapping motors constantly and losing some trust in the shop I would have had build a motor.. i just felt it was better to keep what i have and fix the issues.

aint nutthing wrong with the rotary, it can be built to be a monster. me being in to japanese cars and loving muscles cars too, i just felt this would be a good combo.

i do have a older motor, so the wiring is not an issue as it would be for an lt1 or ls1.

Ya I love the Rx7's lines, and I think the LS1 swap is quite fitting for me.
