Help stop the inflation!

So i keep seeing dealers with rx7s and the prices they are asking and charging is retarded! I keep seeing prices on first and second gen rx7s that are well past twice thier value(somtimes three times) and i wonder if we all started calling the mout on the retarded prices, maybe they will start to change them??

This guy is rediculous: http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/ctd/1651600699.html I called him to ask if the 1990.00 price was a type and if it was 190, or 990, or if that was really the asking price and why it was so high... I got hung up on... So i emailed him asking him what that was about, i am kinda interested if it runs well, as i am on the hunt for a solid first gen.....I got back some seriously hostile emails about how i need to **** off and get a life, this cars worth way more than they are asking,ect....

Please let these dealerships know that the rotary community is not ok with this and we wont let the market be driven up by uneducated, greedy salesmen trying to make a buck off lies and miss information....

Sorry, just bitching, and this may not belong here, i am just tired of seeing these cars at dealerships being sold or wanting to be sold for twice or three times what they are worth, specially those cars that are about to die.......

Cars will sell for whatever people will pay... Why would you be interested in a car that is overpriced in the first place? Its not necessarily overpriced. Bring 1300-1500 cash, I bet he bites.

There are 2 dealerships around here selling FD's for around 14k, doesn't seem to unreasonable to me... I can't afford an fd anyway.

Seriously if you called me and asked why I wanted so much or why my price so 'high' I'd probably tell you to f' off too. And you told the dealership that -2k is too high? with a 25k mile rebuilt motor??? 130k Orginial miles. Seems pretty reasonable.

So once your done with your wide body can I buy it for $999? or is that too much? Just kidding....

It looks like they took the pictures of the car in a backyard of a house.

You can bet the car will sit there for a long time with an asking price of $2000 and those fancy seat covers.

It's not that I really give a rip, but are you guys are bitching about a $1900 dollar car? Did you even read the ad?

"perfect interior, cold a/c, no leak sunroof, deep tires, strong clutch, power mirrors, very cool, and very fast! books and records, complete engine rebuild at 102k miles"

I believe the price is because it runs well and is sound mechanically, rather than what seat covers it has. (which maybe protecting the original seats)

They are classics now...

Considering i have seen many that have 25k motors, and are in the same if not better shape for the same price(many are SE's) i think that its just just dumb trying to get that much for somthing that should be under 1k! 14k for a low mile FD is a fair price, spendy, sure you could find cheaper, but fair... 2k for a faded, base model rx7 is too high, and not fair at all.. If you posted a car for more than twice what it was worth and i called you about it so make sure it was not a typo and you hung up on me i would call you an *** too... Its just dumb...

Would i sell my car for that, considering its not bone stock and beat up, prob not. But if i were to sell it i would be asking about what this ******* is asking for his POS base model... So what does that say about the price?

But sure its all what a person wants to pay.. But how many people end up behind the wheel of a seven becuase of BS and false info from the seller.... How many of those people scrap or huck those cars when they go(as they do) becuase they was not expecting the many things that they are told about it....

I have been told so many ******* lies from dealers about sevens.. How the **** can they claim anything about the engines if they just hear it run.. I had a great running 12a the other day that was rebuilt with less than 10k miles on it.. Took it to robert before i sold it to installer and imagine that, it was low comp and falling apart.. Papers for the rebuiild mean **** now dont they, the motor was toast.. But if i was a dealer i could have claimed to world, and sold it out of ignorance to someone for twice or three times what it was worth...... Thats just wrong...That all i am saying, thats what i see these people doing, and its fucked up. period.

perfect interior?? I just sold a interior a little while ago for 100.00...... So what about the rest of the car, what makes the rest of this car besides the "perfect interior" worth that? I can make claims all i want about how good a car is, specially when i have a dealers license... Do i have to stand by it, no... All sales are final, as they say.... So... classic....?...... Nope, so is my wifes POS suby.... Just becuase its 20 years old does not make it a classic, makes insurance companys say it can be covered as such.... Becuase really, is a 1990 honda civic a classic? its 20 years old..

"perfect interior, cold a/c, no leak sunroof, deep tires, strong clutch, power mirrors, very cool, and very fast! books and records, complete engine rebuild at 102k miles"

A/C, glass sunroof,(oh **** it has tires, lol),and a clutch, and stock mirrors and its cool!!! I sure love upselling things that are not worth mentioning.....

My car comes complete with kick *** blinker fluid and it also has tires on it, so i think its worth three times what all the other ones are selling for, even though they do to

According to employee of the month yes it is.

but Rx7's are for shure classics, and awesome. maybe if they drive the price up for the average joe, we'd have more around now. cause people just buy them and give up since it was cheap.

i think as we all get into new decades we should start to rethink our views on what we call things.... If a 90 accord is a classic, what are we calling a 1956 corvette? Do we say that one is as "collectable" as the other? What does that make a model T? Ancient? Non existant? But anyways, all i am saying is that these cars are NOT worth the prices that so many, mostly dealers are saying they are worth.... AND MY MAIN POINT IS THAT THE DEALERSHIPS ARE SAYING WHATEVER THE **** THEY WANT TO SELL THEM FOR REDICULOUS PRICES.....

And i have found more people get into them and like them not because they are cheap but becuase they enjoy them .....

Really, if it is overpriced then don't bother. There is a WIDE range of what people think these cars are worth today. They are just trying to make a living by selling a car for as much as they can get for it. A place up here in N. Seattle (West Coast Autoworks) has been buying up Turbo FC's and FD's and putting them up for $3-7k more than they WOULDN"T sell for on craigslist. If they can make money doing that then more power to them. When the economy turns around they might make some money on them.

Today FB's and FC's are as cheap as they will ever get for a good condition all around example. 10 years from now when there are 1/3 the amount of them on the road they will be collectors that people drive the price up on. Maybe the price rise is starting? Who knows.

One last thing.... I would have hung up on you too if I was the seller. You are just wasting his time. Just my $.02

Dealers are crazy...

I saw a TII on craigslist a couple months ago that wouldn't sell for $2400, then like three weeks later I saw it listed by a dealer on craigslist for like $5500!!!! I hope no one was dumb enough to pay that much.

but this is one one of the reasons I prefer to deal with private sellers.

If people buy them at those prices it's not unreasonable. I don't consider that fb that you posted an OUTRAGEOUS price. What do you think of this guy? http://salem.craigslist.org/cto/1645171537.html

Example: I bought a 1986 toyota sr5 4x4 pickup 2 years ago for $2700 (asking $2900) with 238,000 miles on it with no bumpers. The kid had reciepts for everthing, but no info on the motor which he told me was a 150k block with cams. The engine was spotless and the truck ran flawlessly. Now, I KNEW the truck wasn't 'Worth' that much, but to me it was.

Just because something is expensive or unreasonable to you might not be to someone else, I don't think anyone is being ripped off when THEY purchase something for more than its 'worth'.

People aren't dumb to buy **** at 'inflated' prices, they just want it more than you. What's wrong with that? If the guy had said it had amazing paint and it got great gas mileage I would consider that BS and would laugh at that posting and look elsewhere.

Also a mechanically sound car is better to me than a shiny car... Paint doesn't move the car.

Now Get working on that Widebody FB... But Please if you ever sell it don't post it for more than 1k...

I laughed at that listing when i saw it... The thing is, those people who buy these cars for this price becuase they think they are getting a better car than the ones selling for reasonable prices becuase of dealer BS like "deep tires" when thier ******* stock.... I can EASILLY convince a stupid first timer or a person who is not familliar with these cars that a junker i have is better than another one on craigslist.... Does that make it better or does that mean i know how to UP SALE!
If a person were to look around and see that this guys price is way inflated they would pass and find one in the same shape or better for less... Thats how infaltion happens, and it does not need to...

If they really wanted it, they would find it for less or they are just helping the prices go up for them, and thats just DUMB! Like this one:http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cto/1653231225.html

And dude, how can you know thats a mechaniccally sound car? becuase they claim they have a new motor, bet if you got comp numbers the motor wouldnt be as new as they say it is... Again i just bought a NEW motor a little while back, had all the papers, had less than 10k miles...... Had low compression..... I can make all the claims i want but does that mean i am truthfull or just saying what people want to hear so i can make a few bucks...

And i wish i was in town to work on my car, i am in hell right now.. ******* hate john day so much....Its making me have such wonderfull things to say about humanity and all i see around me..lol

So, lets let this thread drop, i think i have said all i need to say and heard what others think, i guess we dont all see this in the same light, and i will deal... I also dont think that my "winning mood" is helping me not come off as a totall dick

I miss my car and the valley

Let them charge what they want. The more the cars sell for the higher the value of your car will become. Would you rather lose all the resale value of your car? Or have it level off or appreciate?

I think that is the problem.. People get a car and they think that they should get more out of it becuase they own it or becuase they did a few things to it.. I bought my car for 400, yes it was a steal, but i have and am putting thousands(upwards of four grand ATM) and when its all said and done, what will it be worth, maybe a third of what i put into it.. This is the car game, thats what makes me love it and why i think prices like this are no way near fair or appropriate... I put over 2k into the datsun, but sold it for 800... Was i ripping myself off, NO, i was being fair! I vote no on driving up the price of cars....

wasnt talking about you guys,lol.. You are able to say "i have a good engine" and show why you can say that.. I doubt that he has the equipment your shop has nor will he STAND BY THE ENGINE he is selling. I would not buy a engine from a shop that was just saying "yeah sure itl work" and have no clue how the engine even works but will tell me the world to buy it.... but if they were a shop with the tools and the ability to stand by what they claim, i would be all for it. That is the difference in driving it up IMO.. So please dont think i am talking about NW auto, i sport the **** out of you guys

I am thinking i am very alone in this issue, and before i become the black sheep or **** off the rotary community (somthing i DO NOT want to have happen as i love this place and you people) i am done with this, i was only trying to tell people i think that its sad how many people get suckered into buying a 800$ car for three times that becuase of lies or upsales...

Specially when there are dealers like nw auto or these guys: http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/ctd/1653489297.html that are honest, or at least fair in prices.. Seriously i just see somthing wrong with a company charging 2k for a base model car with bad paint and prob other issues but has "deep tires" when a gslse from a dealership accross town is selling thiers for 2k....

So for those who are offended, forget everything i said. I take it back and i am over it. i will not bring things like this to the threads again

Peace love and empathy!!!!!!!!

Hey Joe, If everyone agreed here, it wouldn't be a "forum". The benefit and usefulness of a forum is in the very fact that we don't all agree. Here you can express yourself and get opinions of others. Some will agree, some won't. But we all benefit from hearing/seeing the multitude of ideas and opinions expressed here. I have often learned more from a post I disagreed with than one I didn't. It get's you to think and you realize things you wouldn't if you hadn't gotten your feathers ruffled. So, don't hold your tongue, and don't hold back. It's all good my friend, it's all good. Take what you can use and leave the rest.
