Good deals on iMac G4/G5's w/ Final Cut Pro 5.1, etc?

Basically, I'm needing a decent(cheap) computer to continue my video editing and stuffs...

I'm looking through Ebay for iMac's and ****, and I'm seeing older G4's at >$700's...

I don't know **** about computers...is this a good deal?

I basically just need Final Cut Pro(version 5.1.4, preferably...but whatever), and Photoshop would be nice...

can someone please school me on this ****?...looking to buy relatively soonish.

prefer a desktop over a laptop, but whatevers...

I don't like macs so I can't help you. I have photoshop 7.0 on a disc somewhere if you want it, I can burn it.

Macs are expensive... that's what sucks about them.

Buy a mac w no upgraded ram, you can find it on newegg.com for cheaper than if you were to buy it from apple. That's for a new one though.

I've messed around with that kinda stuff, it's alot easier for me to do on a mac than PC, but I've been usuing macs from the get go. I know that alot of the people who do anything with this sort of thing all use macs.

hehe, thanks Marc

$<700 Could be a good deal, it all depends on what kind of machine it is..
http://www.baucomcomputers.com/
I use these guys as a reference a lot. They have some decent deals there

For HD: A Macintosh computer with a 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster PowerPC G4 or G5 processor and 1 GB of RAM; 2 GB recommended
The system requirements aren't too high for FCP 5.x..
[Though 512MB of ram is at most half as much as you'll need depending on your project ^_- ]

Probably the best deal listed with Baucom for you would be the Dual 867Mhz G4 for $379 [and you'd want that HD upgrade for $15 extra..]
You'd still have to upgrade the ram, but that's cheap [http://dealnews.com/memory/prices/PC...27/512MB.html]

Or you could check your local craigslist for a Mac Mini [a G4 Mac Mini, not an Intel.. Though the Intel Mini would probably run it fine, it wouldn't be optimized for it..]

For the software.. I'd recommend hunting craigslist for it.. unless you obtain it through "other means"

+1 for checking up on craigslist. I want to make the switch to an Intel Mac right now because I love OSX but still need to run linux and windows when needed for school and personal use.
