In gear idle concerns HELP!

Drove the car for the first time yesterday, just down the driveway. However, when you put the car in gear, any gear, the rpms go up to about 1500 and it picks up a missfire. This happens with the car in gear and the clutch pushed in. It happens in all gears, if you put it in nutruel, it's smooth, you can push the clutch in and out and nothing changes, if you put it in gear and don't let the clutch out, the rpms pick up. Any information here would be great, thanks!
