Found it!!

I found the root of my electrical problem... The breaker switch I have between my main fuse and battery (driver's side bin) is broken and there is no current passing thru it... Prior to the last two days nearly every time I turned the key to the on position the breaker would pop and I'd have to reset it... Now it won't work at all. Let's hope the new breaker I am picking up tomorrow solves the problem for good!

A couple minutes... lol Bad news, however, no one in the area carries anytthing bigger than a 150 amp breaker and I NEED a 200 amp.... I had an acquaintance from Car Toys do my relocation when the FMIC was put in and he got everything from the Bellevue store where he works... Well Car Toys no longer carries breakers and all other stereo stores carry 100 amp except for Magnolia Audio Video they have a 150 amp. Jeez this sucks I was really hoping to start the car today so I could pull it out and wash it.... It's gettin dusty!!

Well I guess it technically took since December for me to find it because the breaker had been popping since then, but when it didn't work at all yesterday I bypassed the breaker with a cable and got power =) Once I bypassed it, the electrical problem went away but I won't start the car without a true connection! Plus, somehow my Optima lost it's power so I need to charge it and get a new breaker still.

Now you're sure you need a larger fuse/breaker?
Did the car start/work at all after the battery relocation was done?

What I'm getting at is, fuses pop for a reason, too much current draw. The fuse is often just a touch higher rating then the max current draw for that circuit. So if its blowing its protecting the rest of the circuit from too much/over current. Putting a larger one in or just shorting that could damage the other portions of the circuits and you'll have an even bigger problem.

Another question is, did you do something that could have blown the fuse? Like hooking up a ground to the positive, battery cables incorrectly or even jumper cables incorrectly. If you did then just try/replace the fuse with the same amp fuse you pulled out.

Another thing that peaks my curiousity is that the optima is dead. This means there was some current draw on the battery at some point and it was drained. I know you can damage a battery by hooking up it up backwards which would produce a dead battery. But being that the fuse was blown (this was the fuse right off the battery box to the rest of the car, correct?) that means no current should have been flowing out of the battery. Which tells me you may have a current path other then the one that is fused and blew (if that makes any since).

Just trying to get more information and lend a hand.

Joe

The car worked for over a year with the breaker, up until the car broke down in December and blew coolant everywhere... After that I had a short which appears to have been the breaker. The only wire/cable coming off the battery is the 4 gauge wire running to the breaker which then jumps to the main fuse. There souldn't be any drain on the battery and the positive and negative are hooked up to the right terminals...

The main fuse is 120, plus there are 3 30 amps and a 40 amp in the main box the breaker jumps to. So a 200 amp should be fine I would think... The guy at Magnolia has a 100 for his battery but he drives a Honda which I believe has an 80 for a main fuse... So IF I can get a hold of Stage and ask them I should be ok... BUT they haven't answered their phone since they moved! I just need a way to get a hold of TJ from Car Toys and see what I should do.

It's not a problem with the fuse because MINUS the breaker I get power to run everything! The only thing is when I try to start the car there is too much draw on the battery for it to start, but I can hear the rotor pulses and my volts go below 8!!! I didn't have anyone here to jump the car, but it hasn't been started since a few weeks ago (it has been sitting since December) before the PFC and I have had the accessories on a bit to mess with the PFC, but nothing that I could see affecting the battery. I have had problems with the battery when the car has sat before so it could just be a defective battery. I dunno.... This is getting frustrating.... I want my new motor!!
