Exclamation First time FC owner need help

so i'm buying an FC TII this friday.... and well i'm picking it up for only 2200 i have a few questions and problems... the problem is it's an 87 and i hate the tail lights on the S4's can i do a S5 conversion?

and i have no idea what too check for when it comes to buying a rotary.... so if someone could give me some answers on what i should be looking for when buying this car id really appreciate it cause it'll also be my first car

and how could i get a nice amount of power outta a T2? with spending a little haha

Yes you can convert to s5 tails. Do a search, there is loads of info.

And what to look for when buying:

in Salem.... so in the middle of it all haha

that was very helpful as long as i cna remember all of that when i go check the car out i should be golden the kats saying he has a JDM engine in there with 30kmiles and the chassis has 115kmiles so even if he's lying about the JDM engine that's still pretty good mileage for a 21 year old car

115k miles on a t2 engine is very shaky but if it is in fact a JDM engine with the miles listed you dont have much to worry about until you have to rebuild or replace it. theres plenty you can do to make it have more power but think about it if its necessary, if its your first car you might wanna get used to the car as it is now for a while and then go for upgrading because a stock t2 is pretty quick compared to most, just throw a nice sounding exhaust and some wheels on it if you dont like the ones on there (Racingbeat t2 exhaust claims to give you somewhere around a 60hp gain if im not mistaken)

i feel you on the first car part, i bought my rx7 earlier this year and it was the second car i had and im only 17 so all i gotta say is if you buy it then good luck and welcome

2200? lets hope its pretty clean. my experience with FC's tell me to spend a little more time trying to find a S5. Since you plan to convert most of it to S5 anyways, it might be easier, and cheaper in the long run. Personally i would find a clean s5 nonturbo, and then convert it to turbo. but its all on your budget, good luck man

87 TII with a low mileage JDM engine for $2200? watch your *** cause its being twisted.
Not to be a wet blanket, and these cars are really alot of fun and probably the best bang for the buck for handling etc.... but

there is no way to tell what a JDM engine has on the clock. The importers usually state less than 50K and give you a compression reading and a short warranty. If the guy says less than 30 K, ask him to document it.

A primo TII of that year should bring $4K, or at least that is what the seller should ask. you can get a lot of other stuff for less (watch the NW FS section) and cars for less than that usually have issues.

if you do buy the car, make sure that you have a good job and the ability to pour money into the car until the cash vs learning curve evens out. I would not buy this as a first car unless you or someone in your family loves to wrench and has a lot of free time and a place to work on it. Oh, and make sure that your family has a dd that you can use while the 7 a) wont start b) is waiting for parts, or c) caught on fire (lol).

I have a 88 vert that starts every time and has cost me almost nothing since i bought it in 98. I have also gone through a number of TII's that were major money pits from day 1 and really never were quite right (but then again, once you start working on one, it is easy to want to add "just one more thing".)

Every one on this forum loves these cars and for good reason, but if you follow the meet threads, there are a lot of them that are hitching rides to the meet cause "the 7 is not running"... I have over 15 S4's, most of them picked up cause they did not run and the neighbors were getting ready to call the cops 'cause the car had been sitting for so long in spendy neighborhoods (16 to 18 yo bought the car then it quit running).

Good luck on the purchase, post up pics when you get the car, and welcome to the forum.

well see this kats wanted 3800 for it and i told em i can do 2200 and i want the stock wheels along with stock head lights and stock tail lights and he said hhmmm 2500.... i guess the wheels were 2300 alone but i hate chrome...... it's red (hate red) but it's nice if you can keep it really clean plus i know how to paint cars... so i'm just going to give it a new paint job and drop some 16's or 17's rota d2's and S5 tail lights and that might be it and do the good old sleepy lights

yea... i did do some research and it said a turbo engine needs to be rebuilt at 80-100k miles... so i'm thinking it should only be about 600-800 dollars..

i really want this FC cause i've always loved fc's but if i get a phone call from this other kat about a 240sx with a RB20DET ill take that.......

i wish my engine cost 600-800 dollars lol
if you can rebuild your engine yourself and it costs that much more power to you otherwise its gonna cost a lot more than that

Just take your time and do things properly and you shouldn't have a problem. I'm trying to do a lot of things for myself as well, and while I do run into problems, I also learn a lot.
