Finally a 7 owner

Greetings,
My name is Alex. I am a student at Oregon State as a mechanical engineering student. And I have been clean of cars with piston engines for almost four years.

I just bought my first RX-7. It is my second rotary powered car, the first being an '04 RX-8. The Seven in question is an '88 vert in white with the Montego blue leather, 5x100 bolt pattern and the 4POT brake calipers in front. It does have a couple minor issues, but it was a $1500 car.

I bought it to be my DD while I'm doing some work on the 8. That 'work' is to remain a secret until parts and such start being realized, the guys on RX8Club tend to get jellymad whenever I update my build progress. But I digress, this is about my Seven and not about drama on other forums.

My seven does need a new TPS sensor and a new catalytic converter. Both have been sourced for the price of $Free.9Free from a friend's parts S4 N/A RX-7. The TPS sensor is still giving me grief so I haven't had the opportunity to drive it down to school where I need it. I guess I'm heading back up to my parent's house in Hillsboro this weekend to sort it out.

tl;dr
Hi, I just bought my first RX-7 as a DD while I have my RX-8 torn apart for several projects. My name is Alex, I attend Oregon State as mechanical engineering student, and build my RX-8 in my free time.

Oh really? Nice! Maybe I have another use for my 8's stock wheels other than night stands.

i didn't think the s4 and s5 tps's were interchangeable because the s5 is dual sweep. i'm trying to get a rotary meet in eugene going, and you're less than an hour away so you should come down

Post some pics of the new ride. Welcome here. I'm a member on rx8, but just to contact that guy who's making the sweet digital compression testers.

well the trick with that is, u have to have the s5 UIM to actually attatch the s5 tps. u can use the wiring harness from the s4 but u can only wire in the bottom sensor. thats what i did with mine and it runs fine.

Both cars have S4 engines. I didn't think there would be any issue. Anyways, I'm headed up in a couple hours to go work on it some more.

3vil, I'll have to come check it out sometime, or just even hang out.

I'll post pics as soon as the forum allows me. Until that time, Tablecat.

omg your modding your 8 what are u thinking! i am on both forums and own both rx7 and rx8 your busted! lol jk

welcome to the rx7club.

have you searched the 2nd gen faq? for a writeup on how to properly adjust the tps? tps can be adjustd using a multimeter, and screw driver should be set when fully warm measuring about 1K ohms closed throttle, and should be between 4-6K ohms at full throttle. also slowly open the throttle and check for dead spots( instead of smooth sweep from 1-5K~ it may have dead spots showing open circuit)

Thanks kompressor, I'll be sure to check that out. The old tps sensor did have a massive dead spot.

Lets just say my 8 will be out of commission until probably this September. It is gonna be a sleepless summer.

Hey welcome Alex,

But seriously don't tease us with your super secret projects, I mean really what can you do that hasn't been done before. In fact earlier this year a member made claims that he was building a 350 hp 13B that was all motor, and would destroy anything that dared to try and race it. I offered up my measly Volvo wagon, still waiting. So just don't be that guy. kthanksbai.

First thing I thought when I read that as well. The super secret all motor 350 hp 13B that was being built. The super secret P-port...... yeah only been done thousands of times for decades.

But to the OP, welcome to the Rx7 world! Not as reliable as the 8 but time does that.
