yah, this ef would have to have like a turbo h22 or something ****** carzy like a turbo k24 or some **** to beat an fd that was slightly tuned. im pretty sure even if the fd was in bad engine condition the ef would still get stomped. if the ef was stock (which it probalby wasnt) than this guy is the run of the mill average ricer

You know what, the honda people can talk their **** all they want so lets just let them. Cause really guys, actions speak louder then words and there is no reason why we should be stooping to the level of those honda people by discussing who beat who. I know its conversation but we all know the truth, so why bad mouth them. Its the actions that count anyways. Just keep the Peace brothers.

Maybe the FD was running on one rotor and had cracked intercooler piping. And his clutch was slipping.

Then I could almost believe it.

i had a honda guy come into the parts store with his freinds, and he was bragging about a 15 second quarter mile time, said he was disapointed because his car is "built" he thought it would do low 13's, i just laughed and when he couldnt figure out why i told him it was because our cars run 13.8 bone stock, he shut up and i just walked away

My buddy had a 590 HP civic, its top speed was 135 (Thats all the tranny would allow...

I've heard of stock (BONE STOCK) FD's being able to touch 150

My spedo reads 180, but I'm not thinking it can be done with the stock FD motor

My estimate is that once that guy hit 135, all he saw was tail lights puling away.

BUT if he had tranny modifications, who knows it could happen

i bet that if the ef was built right i could see it happening. a eagle low end with H beam rods in a LS block, PR3 head, some low like 9 to 1 compression pistons, some nice size cams, a nice size turbo, and a ls tranny woule be good for verry low 12s. just my .02

an example of an EF for the haters.

seriously guys, get off your high horse. doesn't matter what body civic it is, all the motors go into all of the popular ones. I had a low 12 second honda with less than the cost of a stock FD.

I also raced my own honda (after selling it) with slower setup that got it a 13.4 @ 107mph. I raced it in my bone stock FD and it smoked the 7, and yes the 7 was running strong.

any car can be built.

actions speak louder than words for sure. n just because its an ef doesnt mean its super slow, hondas have fricken the most generic swaps ever. u can put a fricken suv motor in them (pilot). but it all comes down to u actually gettin out there n doin it, bench racing is dumb.

u could do 180 in an fd with a stock motor, its all about ur gearing. u could have like a 100 hp n do like 200 plus if ur gearing was right. theres a model of eg civics whose transmission can techniquely go over 200 plus mph, my buddy raced me in his and he was in 2nd gear going 80 or something at like 6000 rpms. it was hilarious!

i view it this way, congrats to any honda that can run below 13, takes you alota work to get it that way, weather or not its cheap to get there, still needs work, but when its all said and done, its still a honda, theres an apsolute **** ton of them out there, and whats the fun in having the same thing as that many other people, at least our 7's are rare, i meet old hotrod guys all day long that even love my fd, and give rotorys a ton of respect, and they all run very built small blocks, or a big block, seen some very fast hotrods, just cool to see the oldtimers layin down some respect for the wankel, anywho, thats my 2 cents

Here's what I've got to say from having a very mildly built civic 197hp/192tq to the wheels that ran mid 13's on normal all season tires all day long. And having an Fd that threw down 360 to the wheels with the stock twins and bolt ons.

The FD was a freeway monster, the gearing is insane +180ish and it holds a descent amount of torque up high. Pretty hard to beat on the roll. i pegged the speedo a few times but who knows where that gets you w/o radar/gps. I'll
say 170+ for sure. The car is heavier with taller wheel/tires say 2500 w/driver.

The civic had a gear limit of 150 with my tranny and an almost flat torque/hp curve past 3.5k that went to 8k. It had a lighter chassis, wheels, and probably a very close drag coefficient. Total weight approx 2200lbs w/driver.

So overall there is a david vs goliath thing here. While the fd is going to be the overall winner hands down to the top. In the lower end with damn near instant tq
and tighter gears the civic almost accelerates the same and imo would probably hang with my FD for a lil bit till I wound up and clawed through the gears.
Now where it happens who knows but maybe 120ish 130ish there would be a definate easy victory, but until that point I'd have to say i at least hung or was possibly ahead of the FD. So if the race ends there, say due to traffic or whatever, I'd say the civic has a really great shot of being able to say he won. If this is a true story I'd be all about claiming a win.

Now keep in mind Hondas in general get a bad rap due to the driver element
not the vehicle. They're cheap to build easy to maintain and very agile cars.
The drivers range from mild mannered soccer moms to psycho nut-jobs and that's where the **** talking and lack of respect spring from.

So to really be able to assume that a stock looking ef couldn't have done what it claims is relative since it's really just how well the car is built on the inside that counts. Mine was a super cheap and super reliable turbo setup that all told with the car and go fast goods/mods cost less than $4k total. Now that's not what i'd consider out of the range of damn near anyone with a job. So figure this guy has an ef, oem motor , turbo setup, ecu and some fuel mods. He's lighter, depending on the tranny has better gearing, possibly more availible torque/hp at a given speed, and possibly more wheel hp than an FD why couldn't he have walked an FD and done it for really really cheap.

I've walked c6's in my civic. I've walked vipers in my FD. I've also been torn a new *** by a few beater hondas in my day as well. No matter how you cut it there is always someone faster than you out there. You may never meet him or her, but if it's an old pos civic that does it, be cool about it and let it motivate you to just bring your game to the next level and not a reason to bash on any car make or model.

That being said no matter how fast a civic is, it's never going to come close to having the looks or style of an FD. So at least with that we can always be sure of a winner. ;~)

Flame suit on!

I do believe I have seen that Civic in the past. Very nice looking set-up. I do like that manifold you chose.

And you are correct that there are SOME Hondas that could beat an FD, BUT I would say it's not going to be a ****-talking kid who has it... Most of the guys with the fast Hondas are usually respecable guys/gals. The ones talking the most are the ones who think that 15 seconds is fast. Also I was at Pac Raceways the other night and there was an ef running mid 13's with a turbo set-up, not sure on what motor but I believe it was a DOHC.

And SAMI, you are also correct that it is much cheaper to build a 12-13 second Honda than to go out and buy an FD, but I gotta side with bosscobra on this and say it's about the car. I'm not bashing Hondas at all cuz there are some that are fast. It's more of a lack of respect for the stereotypical owner that I have.

And just so everyone knows I owned a 97 Integra for 10 months (stolen and totalled) prior to my purchasing my FD. I have nothing against the cars at all. I actually like many of them. It's just the people I always meet driving them that I can't stand...
