Electrical issue

Hey all,
So I was swapping batteries from my dd to my blue bomber and i accidently crossed terminals for about 2 seconds tops.

Now i have no interior lights, no stereo, hazzard flashers, or recirculation on my climate control "ac delete".

is there anyone in the area that might be able to help me trouble shoot it? I can get us beer and I can meet somewhere maybe on the east side or down south a little? I am in the Seattle area and dont mind too far of a drive .

One final thing when a fresh fuse is barley touched, it sparks a little and I suspect that it is grounding out somewhere :/.

If this weekend works, I get off work at 0700 Saturday morning, and am free almost the whole weekend.

I am a newb with electronic troubleshooting, and don't know where to start.

Btw the car is a 1985 FB GS model.

Thanks much,

Tim

Check your fuseable links and every fuse in the car.

Hey Matt thanks for the reply. Thing that is weird is the 15amp fuse for the Hazzard flashers is grounding out I found out. If i put a fuse in there is blows right away. all the other fuses are in good shape. One question on the fuseable links: According to the lettering on the fuseable links, it shows brown bottom for pop up headlight function, black one for main it looks like and then a top one brown. the black one is very stiff and feels brittle. Does anyone know if I can use a brown spec one or what the amp rating is for the main one?
I have a spare one on my '81 FB but it dont want to disable the car if that is going to do that.

You'll need to trace the wire post fusebox and see where its grounding out.

With the fuseable links. Do not use any other one than the correct one. That is as bad as using an oversized or undersized fuse. You can however fit a fuse from a FC in the same socket as the fuseable links. I don't off hand remember what fuseable link translate into what amp fuse. If you search in the 1st gen section, I'm sure its come up.

I've also had a fuseable link break internally, but the jacket on the outside was fine. I don't trust fuseable links.

i hate fusable links. they are like the least clear indicator you could ever imagine.

if you want a faster probe, go get one of those little probes that has a small light bulb in the body. you clamp one end to a metal surface and just probe. if it lights, you got power. really simple and quick vs a multimeter.
