Electric fan

I was wanting to put an electric fan in my car. I have a couple friends that work at Pineapple that say its not a good idea to put and electric fan on my car, however, I have a friend that swears by the electric fan.
Who in here has put a fan on their fc and do you like it does it work well and is the electric fan a good idea? Thanks

If you do find an electric fan, make sure it doesnt draw many amps when on... I have a ford taurus fan and its starting to fail on me. Its drawing more amps than my S-5 alt can put out when the lights are on. Also, make sure you get a quality fan controller.

For a street car there's little point to an electric fan unless you need the space. As long as you can find one that flows well enough it's not going to hurt anything, though.

Look for any fan that has an air flow greater than 2000cfm. Also plan to make a shroud to cover the entire radiator.

N/A rotary engine - clutch fan = more power to the wheels. I'm not a fan of parasitic power loss, even if its only 1-2 hp. You need all the help you can get with a stockport N/A.

if you were going to switch to e-fan, i'd make sure to get a nice aftermarket radiator. but nothing cools better than the stock clutch imho. I tried an e-fan once when i lived in az, and switched it back within an hour

If it isn't a big fan it will overheat in traffic, especially if you are going <25mph up hill. We put one on a TII, it just didn't have the ***** needed to cool the motor in the summer going up a hill slow (friend lived up a hill that had stop and go traffic).

It would get hot in minutes.

FDs have electric fans so it is totally possible but just make sure it is big enough.

clutch fan will outflow any other setup unless its not proper and expensive. usually people change for a good reason.. not on some n/a low hp car due to the fact the some like to run custom inter coolers and the clutch fan gets in the way. or if its a show car. a good expensive fan setup with a better alternator is ideal (FD) but who has the kinda money to waste on a fc?

back in the day 1fastT2 had the coolest FC on the board next to SoulAssasin and they had moneyzzz for all kinda proper setup ****. realistically though.....how often does that occur.

I really appreciate all the feedback, however I am still in the debate over this. I am more leaning towards NOT putting the fan in the car. If we are only talking 1-2 hp to an already built N/A then I am not going to waste my money, maybe later on I might think about it again but I am pretty sure I am not going to put it in.......

heres some food for thought on the parasitic drag hp gain..... the fan has a CLUTCH so it can slip and not creat very much parasitic drag.

now an electric fan has zero drag when not on. however if it is on the amps it draws puts additional load on the alternator, which creates parasitic drag!!

that being said... i do have an electric fan out of a pontiac fiero with a themoswitch. The fiero fan is quite large and has a large shroud which allmost covers the entire radiator. its only about 2" to short on width however.

the benifits??... well its hard to tell if it cools better when i installed a used engine with a blown coolent seal... but ive heard good results.

PRO: gives more room infront of the engine
CONS: the oem fan shroud makes a great tool shelf when working on the car LOL.

your fan is a clutch fan. it barley takes any power to run it. running an e-fan will give you more room in the engine bay, but there is no power to be gained.

Personally, I have always ran an e fan with a thermo switch, only using power when you need it. Plus you can pull some heat off of the cooling system when the car isn't running, great for drag and x cross. Realistically probably 3-5 horsepower gain, clean engine bay, wont loose your fingers when the engine is running, etc, etc.
