i hear skip barbor is just as expensive as flight school, your best bet is visit a local race track and go to the main office, they usually have schedules and contacts with lots of information on race schools for this upcoming 08 season.

If driving school not in your budget then you might wana try joining some clubs and get your licence so you can get some seat time.

If you already have a car, go to Proformance Race school in Auburn at Pacific Raceways. They have a high performance driving school (HPDS) and a scca driving school. The HPDS credentials have got met into every driving event I have tried to participate in. Prices for the initial school are about $500 for the first day which includes 1/2 day of class and 1/2 day of on track exercises. Then there is a second day which is really just a regular lapping day, but you have to prove yourself as a competent driver with an instructor in the car for 1/2 the day. The instructor fee is $125 and the lapping day is $260. After those two days all lapping days are $260 unless you go with another group and then it may be as low as $150. I went to portland with the Corvette group last year for only $110 (i think).

check them out at www.proformanceracingschool.com

You get what you pay for. Skip Barber is the best (or damn near the best)...

If you're a complete newb to driving and want to eventually become the greatest lapping day driver in the world, then go to skip barber. People shouldn't need to spend that amount of money just to get on a track.

Please note: I did not at any point bash Skip Barber on their skills as driving instructors. They probably are the best. But you can still meet requirements to participate in lapping days without having to sell *********.

A friend of mine went through the Jim Russel school at Sears Point and has been competing in their Star Mazda series for three years. It is very expensive, I believe he is spending $1,500 + for a weekend rental. Not including any damage to the car, airfare, room and board. Look into the local car clubs; www.ICSCC.com. International Conference of Sports Car Clubs, runs a lot of schools at Pacific Raceway.

Can you actually sell *********? I thought they were banned on ebay.....

probably the best bang for the buck is the drivers school at bremerton sports car club. I know it was less than $100 for an all day good time. It would get your foot in the door for autox and let you compete for a season and have somewhat inexpensive track time. If you like it, you can go on and move up in $ to another program... just my 2 cents.

Jenkins is right, BSCC has a great novice autox school. It be a great start to get you on the track and autoxing. However the autox school woudl probably not be enough to get you racing/lapping at PR or PIR.

ANother option would be to join the BMWCCA or Alfa Club - you don't have to own the marquee to join their clubs. They have drivers skills day through out the year at Bremerton and also HPDE with instruction from Novice to advanced at Pacific Raceways - many of the instructors also do Proformance Days. I addition as a member you can attend any Porsche, Audi, etc event at PR.
The skills days are $50 and HPDE are $210. I don't know about alfa but BMWCCA dues are $40/year (lots of local discounts too). www.bmwpugetsound.com

Chris and I will be venturing out of second gear this year and trying a HPDE.
