Decided to get rid of the 8....
Well we just may have to change the Oly meets to "any japanese import" because we decided to try and sell the rx8. We can't have two cars bad on gas, the Z is bad enough with it's 19 gallon tank that only goes 400 miles!
I think I'm having some separation anxiety already and I just put up the ad!
This is the right choice, right? Ah why does this car have such an emotional hold over me after all it's put me through! This has got to be the definition of an unhealthy relationship

True 21mpg isn't bad at all, except it kinda starts to add up when one of us has to drive to Renton from Olympia everyday. We were thinking about a motorcycle but we live in Washington....
Haha I love the Z too much already plus it's a 2010 370z so it makes more logical sense to keep it mechanically. Although I will miss the 8, it just keeps breaking all the time. Of course now that we've replaced pretty much everything including the engine it should run just fine, it hasn't been giving us any problems now which is strange lol and of course that's when we decide to sell it.
hmmmm a miata would be fun, you know to keep it in the mazda family

Well, if you feel it's costing you too much, I'd just go ahead with it.
I was contemplating selling my 71 suburban, But I can't live without that thing. I'd miss it too much.

21 mpg is bad, especially for its output. Stop lying to yourselves.
Moving from a car that gets 21 mpg to a car that gets 34, will only save you about $1000 a year with gas prices at $4 a gal. Is paying an extra $83 more a month worth it? Depends on the person and their situation obviously.
For 1 4 hour drift event where I actually drift for about 1 hour, I spend $600 on tires, gas, entry fee, blah blah, minimally. Worth it to me? Hell yes! Worth it in my GF's/mostly everyone elses eyes, Hell no!

Haha I know at this point we have replaced everything besides the chassis itself, so in theory it should be just fine, and it has been since the new engine went in but I still can't put my full faith in it as a reliable car. Even though we have fixed everything that made it unreliable it's probably the most reliable car ever now but the memories still haunt me.
For us actually moving to a car that gets 30mpg would save us nearly 5k a year, we drive a lot.
Also to be honest, I actually prefer the RX7s over the 8s. I would totally consider it worth it if I had either a 1st or 3rd gen. I think that's my problem, I just have the wrong RX model

You can buy my 2000 Pontiac sunfire for $1,000. It has 200,000 miles and I put 30,000 on it. I get 27-30mpg. It hasn't needed anything fixed except for regular service. Heck I will trade it straight up for your RX-8 .

LS1 FD. Not AMAZING on gas mileage like a prius or something, but ~28 combined, at least 300 rwhp, the 6th gear loves to cruise at highway speeds, and awesome reliability. Just saying.

I am getting more like 16 MPG with mine with mixed city and highway driving. I don't think my foot is that heavy (maybe it is), am I just driving it wrong, is it tuned poorly, or is it the 4.10 rear end?

If you have an LS1 in yours and you are getting 16 MPG you have something super wrong or you need a tune badly! DRIFTING for an hour, I get 22 mpg. Stock highway is like 28 in a huge heavy camaro, how could you be getting 16 with a car that is like 300 lbs lighter? lol

That is what I thought, but the car was supposedly tuned when I bought it. It smells like it is running pretty rich. Anyways, let's stop hijacking this thread . I will see what I can do to troubleshoot the fuel economy in another thread somewhere else.

NEVER!!! lol
Actually we were thinking about getting the FB but still keeping the 8 as well, not sure how that helps things for but some reason it sounds like a good idea
A mini would be so much fun, those are just bundles of careless joy from the the get go!
We have gotten lots of offers for trades, but since nothing on the 8 has actually broken since the new engine went in we won't we heart broken if it doesn't sell, or rather we aren't in any super hurry. Of course because I wrote that something will break tomorrow *knock on wood*
oh, does anyone here happen to be able to put a cat in? The new one fried already, BHR was nice enough to send me a replacement but I have no idea how to put it in the pipe.

Don't you just jack up the car, remove a few bolts and then put it back together? Bolt on exhaust components are generally pretty simple, just by looking at it you can usually figure out what to do. The problem is always the nuts that won't come off after tons of heat and rust, but since this was freshly installed it shouldn't be too hard.
