Cough, Cough, I’m going single and won’t make it to Apple Blossom

My FD died on me a little bit ago. I thought the oil seals went out taking out the side seals due to lack of lubrication. But upon having it towed down to Mike’s Shop and him tearing it apart he found that my twins were locking up. Sometimes the exhaust impeller would spin and others it would lock up. So the twins locked up and took out the front rotor, rotor housing and apex seals. Damn. I have a used, good housing from my last rebuild, already purchased a new, good rotor and through Mike’s contacts I’ll be buying a large new single turbo. Oh yeah baby. Not sure the exact size of the turbo yet, I’m working those details out today, hopefully.

I’ll have pictures later. I’ve take some of the porting already and I need to take more of the single setup as it goes in. Then you’ll have to wait tell I develop them, sorry. So the car will be up and running with a single turbo shortly, just not in time for Apple Blossom. Darn.

This so sucks Joe....was looking forward to you coming to Apple Blossom, but on a side note its not looking very promising for me to make it either. Will see what happens tonight when the new sensor is put in and the grounding problems taken care of. Theres always next year.

I could show up without a 7 but that would be a little lame. Although I would like to see everyone and meet more rotor heads. I'm going to use the time to get both cars running.

I ordered a T4 62-1 (Garrett Internals) 60mm compressor and a 1.15 hot side. This should be here on Friday thanks to Rob at Rotary Shack and 2 day air. This should be fun. My motor should be built and installed by then so I'll use the weekend for some basic base line tuning so I can drive my baby home. I miss it and it me.

The first now needs to be slim jim'd because my dumb *** locked keys in it yesterday working on it. But I have a gasket for the manifold which I think was and now is the final problem. I guess I'll find out soon though.

I'll post pics of the porting and turbo, I'm using an old school camera and will have to scan the photos in.

Fun times lots of wrench turning.

You should still come there are quite a few of us coming without RX-7s including me, and you can ride with someone too. There will be at least one or two FD owners there who have quite a bit of knowledge you might find useful in your upcoming project. I know you could ride up with Kari or somebody and isn't Mike still going? Only one ABF a year, plenty of weekends. Heck once I had all the parts I built a whole custom turbo kit including building my own manifold, flanges, gaskets, entire exhaust system, oil and fuel lines, wiring up ECU, boost controller, and boost gauge etc all from scratch in about 10 hours. Of course removing the stock manifold only took me 30 minutes vs the few hours it can take the first time removing the stock twins on an FD. But I had to take it off and put the stock manifold back because I was missing a part so I don't know if I will have it ready to put back on in time for ABF. A friend of mines stock twin turbos went and all he had happen was the exhaust wheel flew out his exhaust pipe (during a race mind you) his motor is still running great.

No Mike is not going. He says he has too much going on. He will now have three FDs needing motors and that is after mine is done. His work is picking up very nicely.

RX7WEEE: Yes I could but I really do not want a 1/2 BP on this car. It gets driven too much and I spend a lot of time idling, traffic around these parts. I've already had people tell me I have a large cam in it, I would hate to see the comments that would come from the 1/2 BP.Plus I think I can make the HP I need to smoke just about everything on the road with this setup.

This transition will force me to install and setup my GM 3Bar MAP sensor that has been sitting since I bought the car and also pick up the 1600 secondaries. Then more tuning.

I can't wait, it should be a blast. Hopefully I can drive it this summer.

I guess were all having problems ....Im really scared about bringing my car seeing as my tuning is not anywhere near doen and I still smoke a lot of fuel out the exhaust during deceleration Im not going to lose out on $200 for hotel and package and time put into making my car look better to me and worse to some people just for the ABF...Good Luck Joe, me and Andre(Netseven) will be tuning my car upon return from ABF then im prolly gonna sell the SOB~~

I'm just running out of money and looking to buy a house, so the FD may be the first to go if I can't find another way. I'll drag my feet as long as possible though.

Not to mention, I'm just very frustrated with all cars in general right now.
