We all see these awsome vented carbon hoods for the FD3S like the N1 <---hella expensive and the more practical Seibo carbon fiber hood. My question is simple. It rains a lot in Washington and well so the water will flow through those ducts in the hood if you park your car outside in the ran. Will any of the engine componets rust or wareout cuz of the water?

lol.... somethings could rust i supose... just look where hte vents are see whats under it, if theres somthing that is vulnerable to rust have it spray painted, like paint he water pump housing!!!, the one i got got wet and it turned ugly!!!

well ok carcover, do u take it with you when you go out to eat dinner? Some places don't have any sort of covered parking so what do u do? See thats what brings this to mind. It rains hella in this state and more than once in a while there will be no way to cover your car if u have a vented hood.

Come onn. think about all the water that gets into the engine bay just driving down the street even in stock trim. Nothing to worry about stop trippin over nothing. Plus I think our cars run ot enough to evaporate most neusance excess water,but then again i have never had one. I still don't think it'd be an issue though unless the car was just sitting in the rain for a long time.

There is another problem with parking if you do it on soil or ground that is not covered with cement or asphalt which, is moisture evaporates and rises up into the under carage of the vehicle... This is how you get bad rust problems especially if you cover the car with a cover that traps water vapor. At least put plastic down on the ground. Also any thing that can protect the car from the winds such as evergreens buildings... Budge makes a car cover for under 50 dollers that is made of Tyvek. Its awsome in that it does not trap moisture on the paint. It blocks 99% sun rays that fade your paint and interrior. The company warns that the cover is not water proof however I have had this cover on my car during a heavy rain and it held a water pudle which I drained like a bowl. I drive a vert. It is not a durribale cover. Take good care of it and it will last you a long time. I think it comes with a 5 year warrenty. Wall mart sells this item. good luck.

It sound lik it is your daily driver. hum tuff one. It is not a bad idea to keep it clean of dirts under the wheel wheels , doors. You know those places that store pine needls and mud. This is where rust festers. Mazdas dont usually rust alot around the puget sound. The battery is another place to get rust. at least get a battery box and or keep th battery clean if you havent bought a gel battery. Basicly a clean wet car does better then a dirty wet car. and all I said about the vapor comming from the ground is still bad for the car. Oh last point driving the car much helps alot and if you have any encolosed spaces put some dry out in it . It is available at boat stores. This is good for trunk spaces or spaces that dont get air circulated. good luck

I think they make inserts (depends on the brands) to close the openings in the CF hood for when it rains.

why do you want one of those hood in the first place. Yes they look cool but they have no funtionality if you dont have a Vmount.

Again dont get me wrong those hoods are awesome. I love the one that Rotary Extreme makes for FD's (if your interested chuck the owner is a awesome guy and give him a call for pricing www.rotaryextreme.com) but get to attention from the wrong people.

if you do get one think of it this way there are so many damn holes that a cop doesnt even have to pop your hood to see that your have massive mods on your car! (laws are different in CA but my friends WRX got impounded after getting pulled over for not turning his turn signals on when he was merging over but cop walked his car and saw his gt30r turbo sitting behind one of the holes he had on his vented CF hood)

get a car cover dont worry about rain when you go to dinner just cover it at night thats when it sits the most if your worried about going out when it rains because no matter what your car is goin to be moving again have the water drip off.

and get a garage!
