Bringing Steve Kan Back

Last time Steve came I found out that my boost controller was not working. Incidentally I could not boost above 7psi. I would really like to bring him back. Right now I have 4 people interested(including myself). I will need one more person in order for him to fly out.

Is anyone else interested in getting their car tuned? I am thinking April sometime.

I'd like to have him tune my (future) TII/Haltech as well. I should be definitely ready by April... Consider me officially interested!

I/my brother would be in as well, never took it over 7-9 lbs if I remember right because of a crappy reman. If I ever have the time I'd like to see if he could do my 2 as well I need to install my tec3 in the thing but I need a good few days off of work to do so.

Maybe if it was next April.

Besides, I'm going blow-through, not EFI.

Michelle: Great, see you there.

Erik: Do you have a date in April that you would prefer?

Chris: Deposits will need to be made prior to Steve coming. The last day that I set up we had deposits to Steve one month before the actual tune date. I think that this is a courteous gesture since he pays for his own flight/food and lodging.

Seth: Will all the issues with your car be sorted by April? Is that a good month for you? If so, what time during the month do you prefer?

Russianmob: Great. Let me know when you get a little closer.

Right now I am very flexible on the time. My car runs great; just wish that it were a little more suicidal. I would prefer to do it sometime between April to September of 2008. Since we are in the preliminary stages of planning I am open to suggestions. I would rather set a realistic date than some pipe dream for all of us.

I have already contacted Steve and he is up for another tuning weekend. He is waiting on us.

Alright, well if it's flexible then May would probably be a better projection "month" for me... I still have two other RX-7's to build before I begin working on my "real" Turbo II. That being said, I will have as much time as I need to devote to getting the car ready for tuning etc. If everything goes OK, I should be ready by mid-April, but if I had a choice, I'd allow some more breathing room and prefer sometime in May...

I am serious though, so hopefully we can all negotiate and make this happen.

And how much is he going to charge me to tune by huge t61 setup ;-) dose also dose he use like aim messager id like to talk with him if possable instead of going threw other people that know m. etc ok well what u you guys think.

Yo Chris, have you compression tested your new engine? Porting can effect vac. pressure, as well as any vac. leaks.

yes, i did a compression test. I have 100:100:100 front and 100:100:100 rear when cold and worm. runs great. starts right up and idels. altho my throttle sticks sometimes i working on that still. just super low vaccume i have no ida why. what should i see like -20 even with a large street port. and what kinda porting would make it this low. hmm i am really shure i have no vac leaks. hmmm weird i see like -14 when its all wormed up n stuff. this is kinda weird dam atkins rebiuld. just an ida i have 3mm seals will that make vac lower i dont mean for this to turn into a fix chris's car post tho.

Those are reasonable numbers, not the greatest, but still okay. What are you idling at?

April may work, my brother (the one with the RX7) is talking about going to japan for some subaru shootout but I dont know if thats going to pan out. We/I "should" have it fixed if we ever have time when both of us can work on it. Mostly on the RX7 it's just traking down random coolant leaks, still need to get the delron bushings in but thats not a biggie.

For me with the 2 it's no real big deal, my buddy has access to peyola's dyno so it's kind of a any time thing. it would be nice to have someone more experienced on tuning the thing rather than just me and some people farting around on it but we'll figure it out. The car runs and drivers and thats what counts

If we are waiting until April or so at the earliest, I should be done and ready to trailer the 7 across the the state.

But it's pushing it for me because I have to finish the build, break it in, and get any gremlins worked out. We will see, but eventually you will see me over that direction.

well, at 900 rpm, those numbers are reasonable. Raise it to 1200 and see what it holds at. If your in the 20's your good.

I wouldn't worry Chris. As long as your comp. numbers are good. My old street-ported engine pulled around 13-14 mm/hg. at 850RPM idle. Similar to yours. Also, is your engine using 8.5:1 or 9.0:1 rotors?

Erik: Middle of May sounds good.

Chris: I typically see vac readings of 20 mm/hg at an idle of 900-950. My motor just has stock 3rd gen ports though.

Afgmoto: Sure thing. Does mid May work for you?

Seth: I understand exactly what you are talking about. I went up to a BMW dyno day yesterday with Woundup7 and the owner of the shop commented how clean my graph was.

81gen1: No!!! Last time he tuned a local built NA. The guy running it had messed around with the car for 2.5 years. Steve went on a quick drive and then placed in on the dyno for 25 mins and managed to get an extra 25hp out of it. Start: ~150 End~ 175. I was amazed. You don't have a FI car though, do you?

Spandy: Great, If we push it out to May will that help you out at all?

I will let this sit until next week. At that point I will PM Steve.
