Rx-8s are'nt to bad. My old Rx-8 one ran in the high 14s around 95mph bone stock. My n/a 90 with just about everything done it it ran ran high 14s at 98mph. (Ported pineapple Racing motor, duel 2" exhaust, s-afc, HI-6, ported intake manifolds, dyno tuned by Ralph at GZ, etc.) CJ

8's are putting out some decent power stock, about 238ish right? Now if they weren't so bloated they would be a pretty impressive sports car, not that they aren't already impressive.

The stock base model rx8 runs a solid 14.5, other models with more options are high 14's. If he has mods then he might be quicker.
So what makes you think you'd take him so easily? S4 motors make **** power unless there's a turbo involved.

On the topic of s-4 motors, A local member who had Steve Kan tune his microtec back in Sept hit 175 at the wheels on Horsepower Connections baby dyno, I believe he had a mild s.p. and some exhaust work. I was actually surprised by the numbers, Maybe he will chime in. Thats more than a bone stock S-4 T2 makes at the wheels. I believe Mazda rated them at 182 at the flywheel.

Really, I have been out to pacific raceways numerous times, and have never seen an RX8 out there. Does anyone in the greater Seattle area have an official timeslip showing a mid 14 sec run on a bone stock RX8. I have seen tons of 2.0 liter wrx's run 14.5 14.6 bone stock. I'm not calling b.s. but I would have to see it to believe it. In fact, I drove a street prepared RX8 at a Bremerton autocross event for one run., just not feeling it I guess.

S4 TIIs were 185fwhp, and S5 TIIs were 205fwhp.

I will tell you this now, rx8's do not feel like mid/high 14 second cars at all. They have crap for torque, and you don't feel any of the pull, but they're a lot quicker than they feel.
Now what you're quoting for power on an s4, that's still crap power in my opinion. It took a great tuner and port work to get that. The OP in this thread is using carb and doesn't have as good of a tuner I'm assuming, so I'm assuming he will have less power. Stock rx8's have gotten 200rwhp before, though rare.

The lack of torque, surely contributed to it feeling "slow". I did some searching and found some folks posting time slips of mid to high 14's, I will have to eat some crow on that one.
Why does it seem there is no local "tuner" RX8's is it just an anaonoly of this area. or is it like that coast to coast. I only know of one guys who regularly attends autocrossing with BSCC. Yet on the same day there are usually 4-6 RX7's of all three generations out there.
The same holds true for drag racing. I have yet to see an 8 out there, not that folks buy them to go drag race, but you have to be somewhat curious what it will do. I have seen plenty of cars out there just wasting time and space.
I do agree that an rx8 would beat a S-4 weber and exhaust, unless he's got a healthy port and stripped the car down some. I did run some low low 14's in my 82 about 4 years ago. It was a Ken Durkey old school 4 port 13B with a big street port, holley 600, RB street port exhaust system, and sans about 200 pounds, oh yea it had DF msd, ftw. Ha Ha.
Nice chatting take care,
Chris.

Washington has proved to not be a big RX8 tuner area, at least from what I see. I lurk in the NW section on rx8club and they have drives and meets and stuff like that, but I never really see them talking about auto-x or drag, or even seeing many of them doing heavy modifications (usually just suspension/exhaust/wheels).
Not sure if it's just our area or if it's everywhere, I know Cali has a lot of RX8 tuner/modifiers, but that's true for a lot of cars in Cali.

IMO not a lot of heavy modding with the rx-8 because owners are waiting for their warranties to expire and the complexity of tuning the PCM.
2008 is looking to be a good year for tuning the rx-8. There will be a few more options and hopefully some known issues get resolved. I'd expect to see more tuned rx-8's in the near future.
I own an RX-8 with 3 years of warranty left but will forgo it sometime in 2008 when I go FI.

I find it hard to believe that you ran that with only weber and exhaust, you had to have had more work done or very extensive weight reduction or something. The stock GSL-SE's ran 15's so for you to say you gained possibly over a second just from those two things is hard to swallow.

from what i have heard I dont think that many people will end up tuning the RX-8 from all the tuners i have seen in japan its very hard to get anything out of the renisis motor. It just simply cant handle it.

Quite the contrary. There are 300-400rwhp rx8's running around out there with stock port Renesis motors. The issue is that you have to take out all of the stock controls/PCM/bullshit that Mazda put it and redo everything.

Dyno charts from rx8club.com. Keep in mind this is not an all inclusive list and represents what people have reported.

I had no trouble beating rx-8's with my fb that had an s5 n/a 13b(stock port), sidedraft mikunis, and full exhaust. Maybe it was just the drivers? I always thought of RX8's as nice, comfortable daily drivers, not sports cars.

idk, i like the 8's but im thinkin a fb w a dun up s4 motor could in fact hold its own. u also have to realize what kind of ppl drive the majorities of 8's. there r just a lotta ppl who dont know how the car works they just like the looks. if the 8 driver was a good driver it would be a different kinda race if it went down the way it should've. in all honesty i belive that the fb could've taken it just for the fact that he probably knows his car better than the other person. im not a huge fan of the renesis just cuz it didnt have the power they said it would. they come outta the box at like 200 or something (correct me if im wrong), still theyre fun cars but if they had been made lighter and with a lil more power they would've been a huge hit.
funny fact about the 8. . . in fast and furious tokyo drift the girl's rx-8 did infact have a turbo kit. but it only put out 198 hp

In regards to the FATF drift movie, if the RX8 only got 198 and had turbo then they did an incredibly horrible job tuning it, OR it was a 4 port. In Japan the early RX8's came in 4 port 5 speed over there as well as 6 port 6 speed, in US the only manuals were 6 port 6 speed. The 4 ports were crap, which is why they are no longer making them, not even in the auto.
There are people all over RX8club that put on the piece of **** Greddy turbo kit with the base map that comes with it and get 220-230 easily before anymore tuning.
