best PFC tuner in the NW?

I am finishing up my build over the next few days and will be looking for someone to tune my car.

I am willing to go as far as Portland to get a good tune.

Anyone reccomend a good shop with solid credentials?

I am bringing Brian from BDC up in the next few weeks. You can always get in on that.

when will he be up in the area?

I am really close to being ready for tuning. basically need to make some IC pipes and get my pullies. I MAY be able to get by with tuning with the stock IC pipes on my a/m SMIC.

We'll see.

How much would I be looking at? Ported motor, one map up to 1 bar on pump (I would bring down my own 94 from Canada).

Let me know when you do. I won't have mine done until the end of June. I will need a tune as well.

I'm interested in this as well. I'll be leaving the country in the begining July and wont be returning until late July, so timing is kind of important here.

Intec is extremely close to where I live, which would be convenient, but I havent heard of anyone who's taken their RX-7 there for tuning.

They don't tune. Atkins has been very shotty in the past and is notorious for not honoring warranties. They only do maintenance and parts manufacturing now. Pineapple is good if Rob builds your motor... His employees, it's hit and miss from what I've seen, not that they're bad guys... Just sometimes communication breakdowns lead to faulty parts being reinstalled or improper parts being used.

no one from this forum has really gone to intec for tuning, but I know of several other Rx7's that have, including mine. i wouldn't take it anywhere else, except to Lawrence's mentor from Japan who specializes in rotaries

So between Forged and Intec, which would be the best/has the most experience?

My build is pretty mild. Small streetport with a small single (TD06).

I overheard a comment recently that a certain person had the "wrong oil and didn't do any prep before his tune. That's why his motor blew." I've been running stock since buying my FD, that's not the case now and I've got more mods coming in the near future, inlcuding a Power FC, so tuning is going to become an issue. My engine only has about 14k on it since Pineapple rebuilt it. So here is my question, what specific things should be considered prior to having a rotary tuned?

Well when Steve Kan tuned my car, he requested that I bring new plugs(to put in right before the tune) change the fuel filter and requested that we change to a 20w oil(said it does better with the heat). Then I would just make sure you have no boost leaks and your turbo system is working properly(sounds like it is). Oh! and a good running car never hurts lol.

BTW my power fc on the base map ran the car safely but I wouldn't recommend staying on it long, I threw in my new injectors changed the value in the pfc and drove to the tune and could tell that the map was not safe, I could feel stumbles when the secondaries came on.

All of those are valid especially the new plugs (with a particular heat range depending upon how the car is going to be run). The point is to have the car sorted properly before somebody shows up expecting to be able to beat the hell out of it. You'd be surprised how many cars are in ****-poor shape or have things wrong with them when a tuner guy like me gets their first look at the car much less gets "seat time". It's so pervasive that my entire methodology of tuning is based upon finding and correcting problems because I walk in assuming that each and every car has something wrong with it.

The two cars that blew at the last Kan session, one was running 0-40 oil on a fresh rebuild with a GT40.... Great idea.

The other was a 20b that hadn't been run, had a half-assed non-seq setup with the turbos spinning opposite directions, no nuts on the motor mounts, and hadn't been run before the session. That was evident when at WOT it would only rev to 4k because the throttle cable wasn't tight enough... All in all the moral of the story is pick the right person to build your car and listen to the tuner!

The type of oil used isn't going to be the cause of an engine blowing up. That's silly.

It spun a bearing if that makes a difference. It wasn't a seal or anything.

Yeowzer. That ought not to normally happen even when running the car hard like that.
