Auto to manual... Help!

I have done a search bu have been unable to get a clear answer so here goes. I am picking up a free 83 gs without motor (still has trans, driveline, rear end) and getting a good 83 gsl auto motor wth it. What would need to use the auto motor on a manual trans. Can I just remove the flywheel and counterweiht and use a flywheel from a manual 12a? Thanks.

how about the clutch and the drive shaft? did you see if they match? from my experience(not on FDs) you have to change the drive shaft, clutch, flywheel, install the clutch cylinder, clutch pedal and I'm not usre if you have to mess with the computer or not, you might wanna check.

I am putting the motor that came off of an automatic 83 into a manual 83 and need to know what I need to do to use the motor from the automatic model 83 and use it in my manual model 83.

So from what I gather all I actually need to do is swap flywheels but still use the counterweight?

what computer?

I would guess you will need:

new bushing
12a flywheel
pilot berring
remove the counterbalance from the at

81-83 should be a perfect fit.

Just ask mazdatrix when you order your berrings and bushing, they are very helpfull.

Been there done that.. 83 to a 83 It's not to hard and we did one in a day for the same year swap.... it was just like it was going down the assembly line. Now 83 5 speed to a 85 Auto.. The Pedals are not the same. In 85 it changed. I Know!!!! Been there! Every one said on here the No….. They’ll interchange… 1985 was it’s own design and the holes where way off.

You should be done by now… Hehe!

No counter weight...Just the flywheel and dont forget to put the pilot baring and seal in the end of the e shaft.
