I don't think anyone has a real problem with any car showing up, there'a 240sx silvia on the list. I know of at least one other piston powered car as well....

I invited my friend with a MazdaSpeed Protege. I'd try to keep it Mazda but I guess if your friends have FAST or NICE cars that's ok too. Or if you have a 7 and can't drive it and bring your alternate vehicle that is ok. Just my view though, I'm not running this.

I think I will try to get the Escalade out for this! haha

It would be close but the Metro could probably beat the bus in a drag race.

What is a metronome?????

So years ago my kid was taking piano lessons. As we sat there listening to him play, his tempo was not very steady, and someone said "He needs a metronome."

So my kid says "Dad, what is a metronome?" I thought about it and said "It is one of those wierd looking little guys that work on the buses at night".

I will plan to attend on 7 April with one of my RX-7s.

within reason we don't have a problem. We want all enthusists to come out and join in on the event. The most important thing is that we will be hosting with a BBQ and need to have a rough idea of how many cars and people will be showing. The more the better my Boss said and if we have to we will find more space for the over flow. I figure we will have it by section though that way it is easier to go from car to car.

The event will be as long as people want to stay. I planed for 11:00am to be the start but I figure that is about the time people will start to show up. I think we will be having the BBQ portion from about 12:30 to 2:00pm for people who show up.

I will not be planning a drive to go along with the event as I have to work however if someone else wants to plan a drive to start from the event at around 2:30 that would be fine.

Is what started (as perhaps disguised) as an enthusiast gathering, actually a marketing effort by Doug's using the enthusiasts for a positive gain in their public relations?

Chris, I do not know if you were around when I purchased a vehicle from Doug's but the experience was horrendous (2 years ago). I don't want to go into details here, but you can check out my posts about the ordeal in the rx8club.com for details. If the HOMErsexual Rob Sangelo is still at your dealership, you can ask him as well.

Understandably, I do not want to take part in an event that supports the deceptive selling tactics that Doug's Lynwood Mazda employs towards their customers. Sorry, but I will no longer be attending this event.

Nonetheless have fun everyone!
Edgardo

I was never a fan of Dou's, but for a gathering I will attend at the location. Not to support them but to see my fellow RX7 peeps. I have never been impressed with ANY Mazda dealer. Mazda of Everett tried to sell me an RX8 when I went in to buy parts. Not cool...

if it's some ploy on the dealership's part to sell some cars to us (or who knows what), they'll do nothing but alienate us.... but I don't put it past them.

I personally have no intention of selling to anyone. I just like the fact that we can get all these sweet cars together all in one place. I just offer Our location becuase we are all into the vehicles and we have the ability to host an event this size and provide food.

I guess you can look at it from a public relations stand point of this will create buisness by having other people who come to see the cars as well. I don't want to use anybody I just want to have a cool meet with a ton of Cars.

If by having a Dealership host the event bothers anyone, I would like to apologize to anyone who feels like we are trying to use them. If this still bothers people I can not host the meet and it can take place somewhere else. I had origionally proposed the idea becuase I can't get the time off on a Saturday to go to the meet but I still wanted to attend.

Please let me know what the group feelings are regarding the location.

-Chris

I don't have a problem with the location. I just have a problem with the salesmen at Mazda dealerships =) I hope you're not a salesman Chris..... lol

Does Scott still work in the parts department at Doug's? He was not very helpful EVER.

If the local Mazda dealer is willing to host a gathering for a bunch of Mazda enthusiasts, it seems silly for people to bitch about it. Some of the big motorcycle shops do this on a regular basis.

And if someone wants to spend his time telling me how wonderful the RX-8 is, why should I care? The fact is that a lot of the people who would attend this can barely afford to keep their cars running - hardly candidates for new car.

I think you hit that one dead-on!!! many participants will be car buyers at some point in the future.... making a good impression now may bring them back when it's time to get a new car. Kinda like tire shops that fix flats for free, it costs them time, labor and materials.... but you're more likely to buy your tires from them later on.

Chris-
I, for one, have no problem having the meet at a dealership, thanks for stepping up & explaining your side! you may have to work, but at least you'll get to attend!

secondly, it's actually low-cost PR that the dealership has some control over... a BBq & car show on their own premises is cheap in comparison to paying to sponsor many other events or even advertising...

I was wondering if i went to the event, could someone give me a ride in a FD?
I own a Z and was planning on possibly getting an FD and no one I know owns one.

I don't need to drive it but I would like to just ride in one. If anyones willing I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks
